Wolf armour retexture help.

Since GIMP was a bit too.....confusing for me to use. And I had already learnt photoshop for 2 years in school

I swapped to photoshop, currently I have just started the trial.

What I want to do is make a new unique armour, which I will be calling Potema's armour.

And what will make it unique is the enchantments, the armour rating, and the texture.

I'll post a picture of my starting point.

I apologize for my shoddy outlining.

what I want to do is to make the main armor part, a dark black colour, with the trim of the armour a silvery white colour.

I want to keep the general detailing of the armour. Iike the dents, abrasions, cuts, you know stuff like that.

can you help me?

I guess I'm asking for a way to change the colour of the greyish metal parts of the armour without losing the finely detailed areas.

Have you seen that mod that retextures the glass armour to a cherry red?

That's what I want to accomplish with the Wolf Amour.

To get a part:

If the color is different, then use the "Color Range" option to get it.

Otherwise be carefull and use the lasso tool.

Okay another dumb question. Whats the best settings to use when saving a DDS file in Photoshop?

Save as a DXT 5 if you got an Alpha, otherwise a DXT 1 should do. If you don't care about size, the DXT 5 is all golden, as far a I know.

Would sorting the different areas of the texture affect it negatively in-game?

Eh.. say that again?

If I seperated the components of the texture I am working on (The fur, the metal plates, the trim) would that have a negative impact once I load it in-game?

As in 3 diferent texture sheets? Well, you'd have to break up the model too in the same pieces, and assign the right texture to each inside of nifskope.

What I would do if I were you:

I'd use the color range, and the lasso tool, and get the parts I want. I'd get them on a new layer, over the fur. Then I'd break the trim off the main part, so I can get that isolated. Lastly I would start working with each layer.

It merges down in the end anyways.
