gooboo
Hi everyone- I've run into a problem with my Creation Kit that's preventing me from making any new mods. Whenever I opened the creation kit and tried to load an .esp, the kit would load for awhile but then get an error message and crash. I tried loading the vanilla Fallout 4 .esm just to be sure it wasn't just the mod I was using and, sure enough, I got an error message and the program crashed on me. I did some searching around and saw that some people were having foreign language problems, but I'm using the English language version of the CK. I uninstalled and re-installed both the Bethesda.net launcher and the Construction kit, and that did no good. Then I tried validating the CK through the Bethesda launcher, and then the Fallout 4 game through Steam, and still the damn thing still crashes. I'm totally lost as to why this is happening. Just a few weeks ago I was using the CK just fine- I have no idea why it would simply stop working on me right now. I don't recall making any major changes to the Creation Kit myself. I'm totally lost and hoping someone on here can help me. Thanks!

Try setting it as admin via the exe properties and then try turning off your antivirus/firewall just to try it.Also note :The creation kit needs a lot of ram and virtual memory ( i have mine set at 12Gb ) and if it doesnt find enough it crashes. As an example: I tried turning down my virtual to 8Gb and it crashed every few mins till i put it back to 12Gb.Basically make sure it has enough resources to run first. (like maybe a full HDD/SSD like in my case ) Edited September 28, 2016 by greekrage
gooboo
I'm going to try re-installing Fallout 4 and freeing up space on my hard drive and see if that makes any difference.
gooboo
Okay, I re-installed Fallout 4 and deleted about 12G of stuff off of my hard drive, and still no good. The creation kit crashes when trying to load Fallout4.esm. I have no idea what's going on here, and I'm hoping someone else can help me out. Also you said you get an error but didnt specify what it says. You may also want to look at the event viewer in windows and see if you find any info about what crashed and why. gooboo
Okay, so here's more weird stuff going on that I don't understand. I tried running the program on Run as Administrator yesterday, and everything worked! I even made a mod and uploaded it to the Nexus, and nothing went wrong. I thought that fixed everything. I literally woke up today, started running the creation kit (as administrator), and now it stopped working again. I tried loading the vanilla Fallout4.esm and it's back to crashing all over again, even though things were just fine yesterday. The error message I get is the generic "this program has stopped working/ a problem as has caused this program to stop working Windows will notify" etc. etc. Doesn't say anything as to why the program crashes. This is the stuff I get from the event viewer from Windows 10- - EventData CreationKit.exe 1.7.16.0 57d83e7a ntdll.dll 10.0.14393.206 57dac931 c000041d 00000000000b933c 1964 01d21b272c6ae889 C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout 4\CreationKit.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll 326c9956-876e-44d9-8594-c137c39fc2bc It says the "faulting module name" is ntdll.dll, but I don't really know anything about computer software so I hope someone can clarify what this stuff means. Here's my computer specs-
damanding
ntdll.dll is a Windows library file, its basically an important part of your operating system that software programs have to interact with in order to run. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Windows_library_files. Given that you've already tried reinstalls and file validations of Fallout, Beth launcher, and CK at this point I suspect the problem is something external such as a video card driver update throwing a wrench in the works or an issue with your windows install. Have you already done the Windows 10 anniversary update or did you postpone it? Have you done any video card driver updates lately? Were there any updates not related to Fallout that happened around the time you started having problems? This of course assumes you were previously able to use the CK just fine. You tried one esp and just the Fallout.esm, have you tried other esps?
gooboo
I just downloaded a driver update from Nvidia, and I'll restart my computer and see if it works afterward. I also checked to see if my Windows needed any updating, and it said I didn't so I think I already downloaded the anniversary edition update. EDIT- Now that I think about it I believe my computer downloaded the anniversary update during the night last night. gooboo
After downloaded the latest Nvidia driver I restarted my computer and tried opening Fallout4.esm again, and it still crashed. So after updating Windows and Nvidia the ck still crashes. Is it possible one of the new updates is causing it to crash, or should those have fixed the problem? I haven't had this problem with the actual Fallout game, just in case that wasn't clear. That's been running fine. Just for some reason the ck doesn't like me anymore. I tried another .esp today and it also crashed.
damanding
I'm running Windows 7 for better compatibility with slightly older games so I don't have the Win Anniversary update on my gaming machine. Even if that update is the culprit your specific hardware will be a contributing factor so other people on the forums may not have issues. You could try rolling back the windows update. Ultimately there would seem to be something specific to your hardware and software combination causing issues which is incredibly difficult to troubleshoot. I googled "ntdll.dll crash windows 10" and this site has some good suggestions, though I think the majority are not relevant in your case: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/ntdlldll.htm. I would pay particular attention to 3, 8, and 12. Unfortunately I don't know that you'll have much more help from here. Without actually knowing your system in more detail there's not much more I could suggest, I'm sorry. :(
