Mod Of The Month

Mod of the month is back and i for one give a cheer ;D

It rewards the hard work of the most creative modders contributing their sweat and tears for our gaming pleasure and gives the user a good idea of some cool stuff to try.

What's more these plug-ins are more usually tried and tested by those who have given them their valuable vote, which is not always the case in the rating system.

One interesting thing with MOTM though is that the mods themselves don't have to be of that particular month, only the vote. That is to say, they could have been released at any time in the last two years. Which is Ok, but it doesn't necessarily reflect what the modders themselves have been doing that month, more the general, accumulating success of some (albeit fine) mods.

Which again is important to know but i think it would also be interesting to get a true mod of the month picture by doing a count only for files released or updated during the actual month.

This needn't replace, but could run alongside the existing list as a kind of 'best newcomer' or something.

I run several 'can't play without' mods that i would easily give my vote any time. I'm sure everyone knows theirs too but my thing is, do i vote for my favourite now, or next month? Or in what order? Does it matter? Probably not.

It's a bit of a fuzzy issue right now as a lot of great mods have been made since tessource passed away and they rightly deserve recognition.

Even so i'm saving my vote till the end of February to look at what has come out over these 28 days and impressed most. With 3 of the current top 5 having had file updates this month anyway it could still end up being one of those.

But it'll be my view of February 's activity, for what it's worth.
