Stability on a medium/high end PC

Hello,

 

I recently built a new PC so I could run Skyrim better. I spent about $1,400 on it (Already had the peripherals) but Skyrim still seems a little unstable for my tastes, and I'll still CTD fairly often (several times each hour). I am playing on Ultra resolution (what the launcher detected from my video card by default... after buying a 1070 I would expect nothing less).

I've looked around for some optimization/stability tutorials but most seem to be made years ago when Skyrim was a newer game and GTX 780s+ were considered higher end.

 

I would greatly appreciate any insight or recommendations, thank you!

You are just beginning to run into memory allocation issues at that level of mods,

 

Follow step Wikipedia instructions for installation of ENB boost and SKSE.ini Shesons memory patch

 

That should allow you to get up to 220 plug-ins or so as long as you use LOOT to sort your load order.

Download and install SKSE if you don't have it already; Remember to run the game trough skse_loader.exe from now on.

Createa a file called skse.ini in Skyrim\Data\SKSE\ if you don't have it already, then write inside (remove other lines that might be inside the file):

After having installed it navigate to Skyrim\Data\SKSE\Pugins\CrashFixPlugin.ini

Modify in CrashFixPlugin.ini UseOSAllocators=1 follow the instructions above this line to make it work. You will need to download and install SKSE Plugin Preloader Link: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/75795/?

ENB can be used without graphics modification (ENBoost) it will improve performance and stability, for more info visit http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/73618/? :

First download the latest ENB ( http://enbdev.com/download_mod_tesskyrim.html ) in the archive, extract from the wrapper version: enbhost.exe, d3d9.dll, enblocal.ini and enbseries.ini to your Skyrim directory (where TESV.exe is located)

In enblocal.ini edit:

[GLOBAL]

UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=false ;<-----set this to true leave to false if you have an ENB.

EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false ;<------make sure this is set to false only works when ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true as previously sad this only causes problems

ReservedMemorySizeMb=64 ;<-----if using an ENB you know what goes here otherwise increase if you experience some stutter.

VideoMemorySizeMb=4064 ;<-----Users should download and run Boris's VRamSizeTest tool. Run the VRamSizeDX9.exe. Windows 7 users subtract 170 from the value provided and use that value. Windows 8/8.1/10 users use the value provided. If AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true this value is ignored and auto-calculated.

I'm not new to modding, just out of the loop for about 9 months while I finished college. I'm familiar with LOOT and even started getting familiar with TES5Edit over the past several days.

 

I do run the game through SKSE, and I have USLEEP installed under my mods tab but for some reason it isn't showing up in my plugins. Another odd thing happened as I was playing/troubleshooting today. I experienced a CTD and I checked NMM and my Skyrim.esm and Update.esm had become unchecked and I had to re verify the integrity of my game cache via Steam.

 

Thank you very much! You explain the optimization a lot better than my previous source (I was having difficulty finding the UseOSAllocators line in the CrashFixPlugin.ini. I even did a ctrl+F search and turned up nothing and thats why I stopped going down that avenue and reinstalled my game. If that line still isn't there should I add it to the .ini file?
