Lag. From Bad To Complete S***faced Malestrom.

Recommended Posts

I am having a lot of lag with the new update, i mean really horrid lag, when i am out walking the world of fallout, it is not uncommon that textures simply stop loading, and i am walking around in this untextured brutal mesh only landscape. I even had occations when i am out walking and the game just freezes up and starts loading for about 10 seconds before i can continue walking. There is something seriously wrong with how this game loads new data for me. It truly is unprecedented, i have never seen anything like what i just described in any Elder Scrolls game ever, and i mean all the way back to Morrowind.

So my question is, does anyone have any idea at all what the cause of this could be? Also i do not use any enviromental mods like regrowth. Edit: Part from Vivid Weather & Vivid Water.

My save game files are around 7mb large so i highly doubt it is save game bloating.

How old is the video card an power supply? You ever clean the inside out, dust will gather in there? Did you start a new game in FO4 an then test moving around crazy like an traveling an causing chaos? Ever clean the registry an other data maintenance? Got Antivirus? Maxing out settings an dropping a ENB bomb on that with a slower PC? Do your toes itch sometimes? Is there a carfax report listed for your refrigerator? How come you didn't use more an more mods until the game wouldn't run anymore, how ever many that is now, ROFL. This last build is over 250 mods but a bunch of it is 6,000 mods to do one thing, I had to build at least 6 separate fresh installs an different mod downloads/installs and start a new game 100 times since launch, it was pretty bad, but fun enough.

My preference was Steam backup installs of the game, steam top left, steam menu, back up an restore games, uninstall, then compress the remaining Fallout 4 folder an create a back up with that and the .ini files, and the hidden load order files in user/appdata/local/fallout, take all that an write it to disc, then if I ever wana use it again it just gets dragged an dropped in. Regardless, get it installed, use the configurator http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/? Then set up a ENB (cause FO4 looks terrible without ENB) Run it, get a clean save point and stash a copy of the save to be backed up for that character if it goes legacy. Download and install a new set of mods or use an old backup. Then use BAT files to get the resources back, ~player.modav experience # and ~player.getav experience, that and crafting pretty much would allow a old character to restart but keep most of the character playthru, there was a settlement ripper thing I didn't try though, but after the 4 month mark the character I had moved back into Vault 111.

Hi

My game has been acting up since Nuka World installed. The new Nvidia drivers have not helped either.

Going into the perks menu & out again usually fixes the problem.

In the short term I have had to dial back features like anti aliasing.

This game loads data in a different way than Skyrim. It loads in smaller chunks of data more often. More in the way Oblivion did. I am not a fan of this setup, It is great for not overloading HD cache on weak setups but not good for modding.

All-in-all, this game is a lot harder to mod than Skyrim, even installing DynDoLod is easier than tampering with Fallout 4

The issue your describing with your textures not fully loading correctly and your game freezing whilst the vault icon appears in the bottom right hand corner is most likely thanks to Bethesda. I think it was around the 1.5 update, but basically Bethesda has changed the way that textures are loaded, and opted for a streaming process (whereas before it was done differently)

I believe this was done with their DLC in mind (FH and NW) but the problem is that it's very VRAM intensive, and hence the reason why your game is hanging/freezing/textures for assets not loading straight away. Defragging your h.d. won't improve this, and if you (did) have a number of landscape texture mods installed, this will only make it worse.

Unfortunately it's hard-coded into the game; really hope Bethesda pulls their head out of their ass and fixes this soon.

XD Ha Hah! If that happened to me, I'd buy a poster of a video card to hang on my wall. Because that time I didn't have to buy another card, YaY. Maybe I'd try to fit my head inside the last video card box I have, and wear it like a hat for an entire day. Take a picture of me an the hat, and hang that up on the wall. Ouuu I'd take $150 to $600 an put it in a hidden place far far far away from meeeeeee, like inside a coffee can under a rock at the base of Mount Doom in Mordor. Fellowship Of The Unending Glory. You know what to do, I doughnut have to say it.

always said fallout 4 is very poorly Optimized and it seems to get worse and not better. my 970 Nvida has alot of trouble with this game when i can run more up to date graphically wise and optimized far better with out hangs or lags (the witcher 3, dark souls 3, max pain and so many more.. )

I use Windows 7 Pro 64, then a 3 year old sandybridge i5 2500 locked core with factory Ram so it's 8Gb of 1333 basically, but slightly faster latency an heat sinks which mean diddly squat. There was a big energy savings with these later CPU's so the windows registry is edited with an app to unpark all cores that just lowers the point when the other cores start working, then that is overclocked 9% to 10% via Asus ai Suite from the MOBO, that in turn overclocks the RAM an GPU 9% to match, and it's generally thought of as the broke arsed loser work around overclock (insert trademark symbol).

Unparking the CPU cores came from higher requirement ENB presets for Skyrim, and theoretically speed up the system. I got no idea about the other CPUs on the market. The BIOS had to be updated many times and I hate doing that, and then antivirus became more important, along with system maintenance. System Care Pro does a great many things for that, but I still have to crack the case open an get rid of the dust and/or upgrades, reworking/upgrading, and generally poorly attempting to navigate SATA II an III interfaces with SSD/HDD.

Every 6 months to a year the operating system becomes so trashed and/or infected with various malware and/or virus, that it all gets wiped an starts over, that usually takes 2-3 tries to install a proper gaming/content rig type of clean setup an install which is becoming more difficult. I opted for SATA III SSD on two SATA III 6Gbs 3 years ago, this being from Kingston Hyper X which later formed it's own Hyper X brand, these used old sandforce controlers, then later HDD was replaced on the remaining 3 SATA II 3Gbs in 2016 with Hyper X SSD SATA III 6Gbs with "SANDFORCE" because it's old, everybody hated on it, an it was on sale *ahem* ROFL

There was a whole suite full of Microsoft Visual spanning various dates but gathered in both the 32 bit an 64 bit versions, along with Mircosoft .NET framework versions but not 32 bit and 64 bit for those it just comes in one, the visual 32 bit an 64 bit thing was installing both from Vista issues, which Windows 7 is Vista, just heavily modified, this 32/64 thing comes from Steam support during that time an dealt with last gen games pretty much.

2005 Both 32/64 (&+1 from games probably)
2008 Both 32/64 (&+3 from games probably)
2010 Both 32/64
2012 Both 32/64
2013 Both 32/64
2015 Both 32/64

The video card was a EVGA 570 GTX which cost more for the brand an a lot more for the 70. This wasn't a good choice, but it was the only card I found that could support Skyrim an Battlefield benchmarks being used at the time to indicate a standard amount of VRAM for 1080p which was roughly 3Gb. A few months after Fallout 4 the newer video card drivers shut the single cooling fan off, an the video card overheated after only 3 years which is why it wasn't worth the money. This was replaced with a Asus 960 GTX STRIX 4096, which interestingly enough has a metal frame holding it and two fans, plus it was cheap an from Asus which tends to last forever in MOBO at least, but before those I was buying PNY budget cards, so don't feel one way or the other, look up what you need to do what you want to do an get that.

Fallout 4 hates Nvidia, it sketches, skips, stutters, and the framerate has always jumped around, though I noticed that going into the game pausing it, and then alt tabing in an out would fix it along with a long period of adjusting between the games VSYNC, the video card's VSYNC, ENB frame locking, and Bandicam frame locking. Between all that I can set a framerate, though currently I started using ultra RAYS & VOLUMETRIC for what it added to the wasteland. This being run in the recommended PC texture streaming distances from the configurator. Vogue ENB or Subtle ENB set at 8X AF with DOF disabled as preference that changes, then TAA from the game, more from ENB, and FXAA to clean that up a little more.

Fr4nssonsLightTweaks removed the bullshite let's light up the dark areas so people can arcade play this, Depth of field remover unlocked underwater effects from being tied to DOF, then True Storms & True Nights were made to be used together with Subtle ENB which produced more of a package for it which is always better when it's developed that way.

Ultra debris and HBAO as they were added in, then draw distances increased 50% from Nvidia's advised numerical settings or roughly 25% - 33% of sliders, Grass, debris, decals, impacts set to 3000 or less, Shadows for me tend to be tedious we're currently testing a 8192 max distance an 4096 DIR at a 256 LOD which at least overcame glitched hard lines in shadows 5-10 feet in front of the PC, you can ~TFC for shadows, an see how far it extends out, how it's map decreases over distance, personally I've run all points between min-max in various settings.

The deciding factor became http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/15211/? and draw distance sliders (Nvidia agrees) to produce a smooth framerate at 25fps & 30fps locked, 45-60 unlocked as it tends to do whatever the hell it wants to. That being said at any point I know that this has to be constantly adjusted here or there, always looking for what I need at the time. I set up a old FO3/FNV camera for FO4 an take cover ruined that, to which later it was updated an the mod is usable again. It's just a example of trying to remain fluid instead of insisting on a set up that would cost me at least $1,200 more, which to that end, there are dedicated gamers to finding high performance in modern games on budget gaming set ups, it's fantastic really. Then again notice I didn't mention PC gamers spiting out all this fuss that XB1/PS4 are extremely under-powered, while also saying next gen games are downright poorly optimized when they knew everything after Oblivion launched was going to be a PC port. It's just not a big deal anymore, it's your PC, change all that stuff.

Nvidia driver settings via Nvidia Control Panel were needed too, but Nvidia Inspector proved not as useful for me at this point with next gen games which wasn't a bad thing because there tended to be much more work in other areas to get it playable, note that, not trying to make it look fantastic, but to get it playable for me, if I can get it to look great an be playable while saving moneys that works for me in the medium powerered or standard gaming rig, but if I were in the low powered rig the same thing would happen just different as it would rely more on resolution an post processing to make up the difference.

Nvidia Control Panel lower left corner (Helpful Info I didn't know)

Program Setting (exe profile instead of global)
Fallout 4 (Fallout4.exe)

AO - Not Supported (grayed out)
AF 8X
AA - FXAA ON
AA - Gamma ON

AA - Setting Application Controled (for TAA)

CUDA - GPUs Use Global (All)
MP-RF - Use the 3D application setting
MFAA - Use Global Setting (off) (exe set for older games)
M-D/M-GPUA - Single Display Performance Mode
PMM - Use global setting (Optimal Power) Needs to be exe set, whoops AMERICAH!

Shader Cache (pronouced cash ) - On
TF-ASO - Off (from HQ AF setting)
TF-NLOD Bias Clamp (I doubt FO4 uses this, whoops)
TF-Quality - High Quality (higher quality 4X or 8X beats 16X which is beyond 50 feet kind of a waste IMO)
TF-TO - On (I have no idea how that got turned on)

Threaded Opt - Use Global (auto)
Tripple Buffering - On (cause VSYNC & Havok)
Vertical Sync - Use the 3D application setting
VRPRF - Use Global setting (1) who cares?

NOW ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS DOWNLOAD AN INSTALL OR CREATE 250 MODS AN START TO MERGE THEM, WHILE ALSO CLEANING THE MODS IF IT DOESN'T BREAK IT TO CLEAN THE MOD, COME UP WITH A LOAD ORDER THE OLD OR NEW WAY, GET THE COMPUTER TO WORK, GET THE GAME TO WORK, AN BASICALLY GET THIS CRAP TO WORK OR DIE TRYING FOR ENDLESS HOURS AN HOURS OF SUPER BORING AN FRUSTRATING NEVERENDING NIGHTMARE PC GAMER DANCING (insert trademark symbol)

I have a GTX970 Strix, cant remember the VRAM out of my head (probably 4gb) but what do i have to buy in terms of graphics cards to make the lag dissapear? money is not an issue

Yeah, i just completed Witcher 3 GotY edition, runs smooth as a baby****, almost highest graphics settings, i dont like some settings so i turned them off, like DoF and stuff. But, more or less the higherst settings.

Ums... I'd say you need to roll back to a savegame before this point or start a new game altogether. Whatever you did ruined the game. Being that I'm running FO4 post Nukaworld (fresh install, and mostly fresh mods) on a Asus 960 GTX STRIX which is basically the same card for half the money, something like that, would point to config, settings, and savegame an load order practices, or even the build of the game, in other words, more work. It's always streamed textures differently than before, I mean, all I noticed was it will pause an icon that it's loading something. I have shadows maxed out to 4096 distance from the player which is silly far I need to fix that better, and particles for True Storms is maxing out in theory I think. This build though, I'm not certain it will even work later on, I'm just betting that I can fix anything by editing the mods. So I mean, if you ask me I wouldn't buy anything, STRIX is new, just take the money an build a AMD machine or XB1/PS4 to go with it, these ports are made for consoles, PC is uncertified an basically put on the enduser to get it to work. 900 STRIX is bloody fast and not subject to the class action lawsuits of other 900 series cards, it's a good card, I'd burn that bish up if it was me, but there is always a point where work has to be done on settings an config, mod installs, and learning about the game issues or fixing it.
