Are there ways to have fractions of items in the inventory?

I'm considering making a mod to make weights realistic and stop being a workbench on legs. Would force player to use settler beacons mod for the settlers and caravan take your loot to home base.

I wonder if it is possible to say make 1 purified water = 1 pint of water, but drinking only uses 8 ounces of it, so half. Is that possible with the current inventory system?

Thank you!

I suspect not, but weight can be fractional and you can always change the units of weight. In your case, if you were thinking 1 purified water = 1 pint of water = 1 unit of inventory, why not instead do 1 purified water = 8 ounces of water = 8 units of inventory? Of course, this would be much more natural if you switch to metric measurements.

Yeah, but metric really isn't lore friendly, so most of my time is facepalming on the non intuitive US system. But currently I have considered changing the base components for the following:
-All have the same "volume" considered for their weight. Base unit is the teaspoon. 6 teaspoons = 1 ounce. 16 ounces = 1 pint. 2 pints = 1 quart. 4 quarts = 1 gallon.
-All base components have a weight that matches the real density for the teaspoon of said material, with minimal adjustments (adhesive is quite loose term, while gold is a pure chemical element).

This has the advantage to be able to consider more base components per scrap item to match a realistic weight. For example:
The original "gold flip lighter" weighs 0,5 lbs in vanilla and gives 1 gold, 1 oil, and 1 steel.

In my system, each component unit is a tablespoon of the real life material density. The same flip lighter item weighs 0,4395 lbs, and contains: 1 gold (0,2097lbs), 5 gasoline (new component, 5*0,0078lbs), 1 cloth (wick, 1x0,0168lbs), 1 gear (which is made of steel, 1x0,0869lbs), 1 spring (made of steel, 1x0,0869lbs). Total is about 199,4g which is about the same or a little more the real "zippo flip lighters" as per their website description.

The Aluminum Can now has exactly 1 aluminum component as a teaspoon of aluminum is about the mean empty aluminum can weight in modern times.

But there are problems for very small items. The pencil cannot realistically just give wood... Then having 1 lead and 1 or 6 wood (as wood is negligible here) is vastly over the 3g average of a pencil. The teaspoon of lead alone is responsible for 56g of weight... And I cannot start counting items under that teaspoon threshold because we'll be working with very minimal quantities at all times...

Maybe, just maybe we could make the individual pencil items give off no material, but when a specific quantity is reached, let's say 20 pencils * 3g and you have about 60 grams of mass to turn down into 1 lead and the appropriate amount of wood. I don't know how much that would be hard to implement to account for the auto scrap feature while placing objects in workshop mode or the contraptions workshop objects... I'll have to think about this.

If you have knowledge on this, or ideas, please let me know! I learn fast, but I am kinda new on modding. :D

Thanks a lot!
