SteelersCA
Hey Gang: I am a new member, so hello to all of you and thank you for posting all of these helpful topics. I have been surfin' this site for the last few days since I bought the Oblivion software. I found one thread, but can't locate it now, that suggested optimal pc systems for running Oblivion. The thread creator was asking for responses on an overkill system for Oblivion. A forum member responded by suggesting going to a particular online retailer for a gaming system, can't find that now either. I believe he/she mentioned it is a site that techies send people to that are looking for good gaming system. hq resource or something like that. What I am looking for is the best system that I can get for around $600-$800 w/o monitor, so I am low-end at best I think. I may end up just waiting another year or not depending on your responses. Thank you.

SteelersCA
Thank you woogiemonster. Buyxg was the one I was thinking of. Are the systems at the 600-800 range good enough to run Oblivion on max settings without complications? What system specs would you recommend for optimum running of Oblivion? I guess my question is: if you were going to have a machine built to run Oblivion and Oblivion mods, what would it be? Additionally, I would like to run XP on it. I bought a laptop about a year ago when vista first came out and had vista removed and XP installed. It was a bit of nightmare, but everything has run better since the switch. Oblivion just has so many crash glitches that you are bound to crash a few times, when mods conflict, and saves get corrupted and things like that. But lagwise you should be smooth.

What I am asking for is if you were going to have a system built for 700 what would the specs be. ie. cpuramvid cardshard drive etc. Also, what hardware is the most important to the performance of the game. My guess would be cpu and vid card but I am non techie of sorts. I went to several of the sites suggested and it was kind of info overload
malonn
I'm tempted to recommend waiting a little while longer and saving up more money to give you better options for components. If you are a gamer, it would make sense to look to the future as much as possible with a new rig. Buy the best components you can. If that means being patient, so be it. You can find good components for cheap on ebay. Just an opinion though.
Guest
I just built a machine like this and started playing Oblivion again on it. It runs 1680x1050 with everything on max. (quarl textures included) with a mild cpu overclock. You can save money with less ram and hdd space to get it closer to $800 if you want.
