Has anyone figured out what controls NPC animations?

I am trying to find out what controls the animations an npc uses. I have looked through the <skyrim.esm> but i am getting a bit lost in there. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated.

What tool do you use to look at the .esm? I may be able to help if I even get the right tools to investigate.

I am using FOMM (the one for Fallout3 and NV) here on Nexus.

Alright. I also heard Skyrim Viewer is good at peeping around as well. Well, what I'm going after is being able to turn into and control a dragon.

I already know that you can turn into a dog by using "setrace" or such, and rigging the 3rd person camera (and 1st person?) to work using nifskope. The end result is you can walk/run around as the dog, but you can't do much else.

This is where our problem lies. Getting the dog to execute its attack animation. Well, that's hard. I think you can do it by finding the animation, and binding it to the mouse keys. But, I think this requires some type of script modding. Also, with script modding and FOMM, I think you can make a spell that turns you into a dog and back, that is if the dog can cast the spell to turn you back to human form.

I don't know if all this works for dragons, but I think it might.

The NEXT problem, after getting the animations/attacks/spells to work, is (this is my problem alone if you have a different goal) the flight animation for the dragon.

I can see that this is a lot of animation rigging, and perhaps some script modding could help? Not sure.

I've checked both Skyrim Viewer and Tessnip in FOMM, none are clear which variables control the NPC animations. But I am VERY VERY VERY certain that it uses the same system as Oblivion where animations can be set to unique NPCs. I'm still looking for a way to change the huscarl standing positions but I can't figure out the hexes.

Lydia is the main reason I am trying to figure out whats controlling the animations :) I want to make her stand and sit like the other female characters.
