polorsport
So I had done a tone of mods on my game previously, but decided all the crashes where not worth the extra pretty scenery. So I loaded a game save followed these instructions: 1) Load game with uGridsToLoad at your current setting.2) Load the save, which should load correctly.3) Open the console and type the following: setini "ugridstoload:general" 5saveinirefreshini" Now I can move about in my current location, and can fast travel to previously visted location. BUT I can't travel through skyrim, or walk to new locations without the game crashing to desktop. No error messages, just crashes. Even if I stay in the towns I have visted the game will crash after about 5-10 minutes. I currently have all my settings at default, with 0 mods. The other odd thing is that all my loading screens are now red in color. I also tried Here the full solution step by step:-. Open the configuration panel from the standard Skyrim launcher, the cool borderless splash screen one (not the 4GB launcher!!)-. Configuration-. Flag the window mode option and select whatever resolution you prefer, just go for one that's smaller than your screen-. Start the game, now windowed-. Alt+Tab to be able to move your cursor out of the game window and open the Skyrim.ini file you can find in the "MyDocuments\My Games\Skyrim\" folder-. Change the "uGridsToLoad" and "uExterior Cell Buffer" values to the lower ones you need and SAVE-. Click inside the game window to get back in control of the game cursor and open the console (press the "~" button, the one below "Esc")-. Type refreshini and hit Enter-. Now make a new savegame, even a quick one-. Exit the game-. Now you can run Skyrim again with the fullscreen resolution, the latest save file will work at the lower uGridsToLoad value!!! That didn't work. I would like to continue my game as I'm a good 50 hours into it.
solomani
Ditto, same thing. Tried reducing my ugrid after hitting the area with all the steam vents which reduced my FPS to 10 and now my saves wont load and splash screens are red. 58h in. I guess this is the price of plaing with the ini files...
solomani
Had to wipe and restart, reset grids back to 11 and game loaded fine.
polorsport
So after you did the full wipe. The only change you made was changing ugrid to 11? Everything else stayed the same? No mods you had, texture packs, nothing?
Retspadez
Try backing up your saves folder, reinstalling Skyrim and changing uGrids with no mods.
polorsport
Holy s*** that worked. I changed my ugrid to 11 after doing a fresh install. No more annoying red load screens, so far no crashes. More importantly I can leave this f***ing town. I LOVE YOU GUYS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! luthienanarion
You cannot change uGrids and then load any save that was made when it was a different value. If you start a game with uGrids set to X, you are stuck with X unless you start a new game. This is true of all Bethesda's Gamebryo games.
