Dude, where's my respect?

Winterhold... dragon circles, lands I kill it... in the process I killed a chicken, next thing you know dead dragon and dead chicken, I'm wanted for murder. A chicken!! *sigh* no one noticed I just saved the people.

Mod to remove chicken registering as victims or something along those lines would be nice.

I've always thought about a sort of mod that prioritizes what the guards say based on WHEN you did something.

If you just saved the world from Alduin, then almost everyone would ONLY talk about that for the first 3-4 messages.

Then, if you do something like a local quest, guards will comment on that first, then talk about Alduin.

Quite similar to how current events work in the real world.

I'd really like to see a "NPC Dialogue Priority" Mod.

Although this wouldn't quite fix the respect issue (It would be a very nice step towards it, though) it would really fix the immersion-breaking dialogue patterns that plague the NPC's of Skyrim.

Does anyone agree with me?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Oblivion like that? I mean I remember completing the Battle for Kvatch and being hailed as the Hero of Kvatch, then saving Bruma I was the Hero of Bruma. Then at the end of the game I was the Champion of Cyrodiil or whatever.

But here in Skyrim it's a different story. I'm a Legate in the Legion, and Imperial Guards are talking to me with disdain. "Ohh let me guess-someone stole your sweetroll." No. No one stole my sweetroll. I'm a ranking officer, and you have just offended me. The consequences for this shall be dire indeed. This has got to be one of my most frustrating and hated aspects of this game. I've complained about it before on other threads. I would love to be shown respect. As a Legate, or The Dragonborn (when I get around to starting the main quest that is).

Also, I've seen people talk about having their skills commented on by NPC's. This has only recently started to annoy me. For awhile I had no problem with what they said, but soon NPC's were commenting on my lockpicking, or how sneaky I am. I only use lockpicks every once in awhile in a dungeon to get past an interesting looking door, other then that I'm not a theif. I'm a warrior who wears heavy bulky steel plate armor and I never sneak. Just because my skills are over it looks like 20 every NPC feels the need to comment on them.

Oh yes. There are many immersion-breakers, but killed chicken leading to your own execution, or horse reporting a murder are one of the leading ones

Hitting someone or something while fighting a random-spawn dragon also gets old very fast. especially if you hit one of the 5 guards fighting a dragon, and suddenly, you realize you are fighting 5 guards AND a dragon

Whats weird is that you do sometimes get appropriate dialog.

potential spoilers

I've gotten congratulated for clearing out the den of hagravens that cursed the companions. Or guards still talk in disbelief about releasing a dragon from whiterun.

So clearly the game is paying some attention to what you are doing. The problem is that those moments are completely overshadowed by endlessly repeated immersion breaking moments.

Guards still recognize me as "the new member of the companions" despite being harbringer. That punk kid in dragonreach still thinks I'm there to lick his fathers boots despite saving that city thrice over. The worst example was in the companions guild hall i overheard Farkas say to one of the other non-circle companions that "You don't get to fight until Skjor says so, until then you train"

Now, maybe Farkas was being a sarcastic dick, but Skjor has been dead for months now.

Anyways, the list goes on and on for examples. I'm less concerned about reward checks, I would love to see a dialog mod that fixes this problem though.

I'd trade off 50 of the 200 dungeons in this game for better immersion such as npc dialog checks, reactive environments, etc.

Another very interesting thing is that when people actually do comment on your exploits they don't talk about the more impressive things, guard: "So you're the one who took care of those Glenmorril witches. Good work!" Dude I'm the frickin harbinger, isn't that a little more impressive? The leader of the strongest, most revered group of warriors in Skyrim<a witch hunter. What up with that? It's annoying.

You would also think that accidentally ruffling someones hair with an unrelenting force shout as you're handing a dragon its ass on a silver platter would be considered the lesser of two evils. I mean the thing just ate 2 guards and you are getting all pissy at me for ruining your helmet hair after I killed the dragon? What!

And when you're a thane in a city its so ridiculous that the guards have the exact same comment when they talk to you about a crime, you would think that they would know you're a thane and you wouldn't have to tell them. And if you did have to tell them that they might want a little more proof than your word... It's just frustrating!

What the game lacks is the ability to sort between dialogue types. Instead it lumps all dialogues together, resulting in the Alduin-slayer being referred to as a sneak thief (or having his sweetroll stolen, dpending on the guard)

Most infuriating moment was when I came across 2 Imperial soldiers escorting a prisoner.

"Move away, citizen, you are obstructing the execution of justice" (or something along those lines)

I was a Legate dammit. If I had been in my full Imperial armour set goodness knows how much more ridiculous it could have turned out.

Don't think I should be complaining anyway, it's not like Bethsoft would give a rat's arse.

I just find it funny that they went to the trouble of programming the Jarls to say stuff like "I'll inform the guards that you're not common rabble anymore" and then the next thing you're outside and they're asking you about the damn sweetroll or telling you that you better not be unlocking any doors around here! I mean, why bother if you're not going to follow through?

Agreed. In skyrim, i'm the thane of everything, master of every major guild, I (SPOILER) killed alduin, who was supposed to destroy the world, drove out the imperials and practically won every major battle by myself (SPOILER END), and can kill people by just yelling at them, and helped everyone and their grandma with their problems. I think I should be High King, not Ulfric.

think about it this way, if you complete the game and become the emperor in ES5, and the next game ES6, the guards can say: Zenmonkey47 took an arrow to the knee and he became the emperor.

that is fine

but what if 20 million gamers who played ES5 all become the emperor, how are they going to make the next ES6?
