A Question about music tracks saved in the .xwm file-type format

Recommended Posts

I originally saved my music tracks in .wav format, but they are each around 60-70 MB in size, which is far too large.

When I was snooping around in the 'Sounds' .ba2 I noticed that the .xwm format is used for music tracks. So I found the Skyrim .xwm converter and converted my tracks from .wav into .xwm.

I would like to know how to get the CK to let me choose the tracks in the .xwm format, because it doesn't appear to let me choose any other type than .wav.

I also tried to package my music folder into a Sounds.ba2, thinking perhaps the engine would recognize the items in an .xwm extension regardless of the CK not allowing me to select them in this format, and it did not; the music did not play because the .wav versions were not present.

Any help would be appreciated.

When you use CK to pack your archives it automatically uses xwmaencode.exe to convert wav to xwm before packing and leaves a backup copy of the converted files in Fallout4\Data\PC. You can find the xwm tool in the Fallout4\Tools\Audio folder. Make sure you have the latest version of CK.

Edit: you can certainly use music in xwm format. The DLCs music is packed that way.

Hi, steve40 -

Thanks for the reply, but it doesn't really answer my question.

Are you saying that the music tracks are entered into the CK in the form of .wav first, then converted to .xwm, by the CK later?

I don't have the latest version of the CK I guess because I don't have those tools. I live in Australia, and it's almost impossible to update the CK here.
