jules373
HiI am using NMM version 0.63.0 and I want to backup Nexus Mods as I will be doing a complete system build and will have a new HDD. When I clicked on the Backup and Restore icon and then hit 'Create Mod Installation Backup' it got so far and then failed(Options I chose were to copy everything btw) Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong or perhaps advise another way to backup everything so when I reinstall Fallout 4 I can have all my working mods again. Thank you
WhiskeyRiver2
I just copied my entire FO4 root directory onto a USB stick (specifically this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sandisk-ultra-128gb-usb-3-0-flash-drive-black/9044257.p?skuId=9044257). Still has room for a few of my other games too.
jules373
Interesting but I still need to backup the Nexus Mods in the Mod Manager - anyone help in this regard as when I tried backing up everything it failed ?Please Edited October 11, 2016 by jules373
damanding
As long as you have the same mods in the same order on a clean reinstall it will still work with your save game. I've never used the NMM backup functionality so can't help with that but I have tested my first statement successfully.
jules373
Ok that's reassuring - so how do I go about saving the mods I have installed through NMM into my backup drive ?Specifically what folders do I copy from NMM with all the mods I have downloaded ?Or are you saying go through the hassle of searching on NExus and redownloading all the mods as franktly that sounds like a giant pain the ass if I can backup entirely what I need to ? damanding
When I did it I had some of the mods already backed up to a secondary hard drive because I had started manually downloading all mods to a backup location so I'd always have them if the mod author ever decided to hide one I like. The rest I had to re-download. This means that some of them even got updated in the process and it still worked! So yes it's tedious, I spent an entire Saturday on it. Like 10 hours downloading, installing, configuring etc. But the upside is you then have all your mods backed up on a secondary drive which is your purpose anyway. As for where to back up from an NMM install all NMM does is unpack the zip or rar file the mod came in and dump the content into the appropriate location in your data folder. Esps and ba2s go in data root, materials in materials folder, etc. So really the easiest way is to literally backup your entire data folder (perhaps minus the fallout ba2s if short on space). I don't think NMM keeps the original zip or rar file saved anywhere though I could be wrong on that.
jules373
Ok thanks for the info I have done the backup through NMM anyway and also took your advice and backed up the data folder and mods and also the loadorder and other bits and bobs so hopefully that will all work out ok when I reinstall Thanks for the advice
