ninga_express
In the beginning you see a few mounted legionnaires and then not a single officer is mounted, no stormcloaks ever use horses... strange considering they'd be godly in their own country. Even though there is no mounted combat, the shear mobility would have been necessary in open field battles(even those have gone missing). So what happened? let me guess, someone stole your horsemanship?
Nekrafilia
I used to be a warhorse until I took an arrow in the knee. That's why the remaining population look like they are ready for the knackery, all the good horses got injured.
huntsman2310
All of the horses in Skyrim are really slow moving. You can sprint and run faster then they can. I mean these ones don't gallop for some reason. All they do is a canter.
NephilimNexus
Mounted combat is far to complicated and expensive for Bethesda studios to handle. For that you need the massive budget & development team over at Tale Words instead.

Arcadiast
with or without sarcasm, horses (or mounts in general) remain useless gimmicks in a World where otherwise they should play a important role. The reason why the "Horse Armor DLC" for Oblivion was so "infamous" was not only because it was a very small addition but also because it was a useless addition to a useless feature. I am sure Bethesda is absolutely capable of implementing decent Mounted capabilities, like fighting from Horseback, Guards on Horses, Bandit Horse raiders even Archery from Horseback but why they wont do it is a mystery for me. Maybe me and just two others are the only ones asking for it? Imagine circling on the ground with a Horse while at the same time shooting arrows at a Dragon! sounds nice to me! WOTmodsproductions
Far too complicated and expensive? I recall someone making a mounted combat mod on their OWN and for FREE for oblivion, so that argument is void Sure it wasnt perfect, but it was better than what bethesda made.....which was no mounted combat

You might like it and understand how very sarcastic (and well done) nephilim's reply was....
barrynor
It was sarcastic... we're talking about a game company that had 70+ voice actors doing voices for them. Surely mounted combat lies within their reach.
ninga_express
why don't they do mounted combat then? and speculation? I remember reading in the books like the manual of arms that talked about mounted knights and the equipment they needed. At the very least I want to be able to shout from my horse... that would be unbelievably simple.
