Can I pan the camera around my character while moving?

Open console and type "animcam" without the quotations.

This will allow your mouse moments to pan around and zoom in/ out while you are moving. However you cannot turn your character's direction (IE walk from north to point and walk east). You can still use some ontrol to alter your current angle by W-A or W-D which will point them directional variants of your current path (like if you were going north you could alter to NE or NW). This will allow you to kinda move around some objects in your path, like a fire pit. Well if you manage your geometric angles correctly. You can return to 1st person mode by simply pressing your "POV" key command. But when you press POV or mouse scroll out you will still be in animcam mode. I would highly advise against engaging in combat with this mode active, as you can't change direction outside of 1st person. But its WONDERFUL to use when walking down a long straight road so you can look around at the scenery or watch for potential threats.

To turn the mode off you will have to open the console once again and type "animcan" without the quotations. Its not a very pretty system but its really the only way to do this. I personally created a bat file I named A with the command in it. So all I have to do is type "bat a" in console to turn it on/ off. And I own a keyboard that allows me to use 6 macro keys that can program keys. SO all I have to do is press one key and it does the following:

`

B

A

T

SPACE

A

ENTER

`

all inside like 1.5 seconds :D

Has anyone tried to use an xbox controller? because on the PS3 it's the standard thing of both analog sticks being used for cam and character movement. And it's completely intuitive. I'm looking into getting a controller because I can't stand moving around with WASD...

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I feel it should be said: After all the content is done in Skyrim, I kinda want to admire my character while I walk her around...but the lack of a real, functional vanity camera (preferably one that doesn't use scriptdragon, because f that crap!) makes it difficult to really stay with Skyrim.

That said, I recently bought Oblivion on Steam, and I will probably be hunting down all of my old mods for it...at least Oblivion has a functional vanity camera!

Bump in 2017 cause I still haven't found a good solution to this. I've tried ANIMCAM Hotkey and 360 Walk and Run. Neither allows you to keep moving (walking, sneaking, horseback riding) in a straight line whilst panning the camera around freely.

Just to give a few scenarios:

-Sneaking around ruins and rocks while keeping track of a dragon (meaning you have to be able to look up and down a bit too)

-Looking behind you to check on your follower while on horseback en route to a destination (aim your character at a point and then look around, so you don't fall off a bridge or the side of a bluff)

-Enjoy Skyrims scenery and characters while playing, since we all most likely sunk a good deal of time into making them just the way we want.

I even remember reading somewhere that someone wanted something similar to use for Skyrim in VR, since he just wanted to look around with his headset and not make the character physically turn every which direction.

Maybe I just don't understand what kind of an undertaking it would be to do this but it seems at the surface to be something so needed and not nearly as complex as some of the other mods out there.
