Spartan919
So I have an interesting problem. Whenever I use my NMM to check archiveinvalidation it tells me there is no Fallout.ini and I must start the game in order to create one. However, when I look in my Documents/Games/FalloutNV, there is indeed a Fallout.ini file. So...I could use some help, please. As an addendum, no new mods that I install are being activated, even though they are shown as active in NMM.
RoyBatterian
Is there a Fallout_Prefs.ini ? If not validate your cache and one will be created.
Spartan919
Yes there is, but there is no underscore in its name. It is just 'FalloutPrefs.ini'. I have not renamed any of my ini files, this is as it was created by the game.
dubiousintent
Mine doesn't have an "_" either, so 'FalloutPrefs.ini' is good. But that file should be in the "C:\Users\<YourAccountName>\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV" folder, along with the "Fallout.INI" file. The game engine will use "steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Fallout_default.INI" to create "Fallout.INI" in the "Users" folder if it does not exist. "Falloutprefs" gets created when you first launch the vanilla game launcher and it detects your hardware and graphics settings. So that is three separate INI files you need to have: "Fallout_default.INI" in the game root folder; and both "Fallout.INI" and "Falloutprefs.INI" in the "Users" folder. If all three files are present, then NMM is looking in the wrong location, and you should check this video or in the NMM "Beta Feedback forum" for help. One other thing: if you installed the game to the default Steam location of "C:\Program Files" folder tree, please read the article "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" in my signature, and move it. All sorts of "strange behavior" problems are resolved just by getting the game out of that tree. -Dubious-
Spartan919
All three INI's are indeed present. There are also ini files in NV's location titled "low.ini", "medium.ini", and "high.ini". I don't know if these would be a problem or not. Also, sorry if it's just me being dumb, but that first link doesn't have a video, just a basic introduction to NMM, which I had thought I was rather proficient in, though maybe not. dubiousintent
My apologies, you are correct that link is not a video. Gopher's version is here and GamerPoet's version is here. And if your issue is beyond the scope of those tutorials, then you had best take it directly to the support forum. Believe me: even when "proficient" (or even "expert" or the author) regarding any piece of software, no one knows everything it can do. Subtleties abound. There is always something unexpected. INI files other than what NMM is expecting to find should not be causing your problem. -Dubious- Edited October 20, 2016 by dubiousintent
Spartan919
I will take a look at both of these videos. Something I realized only a few moments ago is that, on a different computer, the NMM is having no such issues as it is on this current machine. However, I can think of nothing that should change the way NMM is interacting with either computer. The only large difference between the two is their graphic capabilities, and I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with my current problem. Spartan919
Update: I have moved Steam out of program files, studied both videos, visually checked for all three ini files, verified the game's cache multiple times, and NMM still can not find my game's ini file... dubiousintent
Have you tried re-installing NMM? Likely it needs this after you moved Steam anyway, as that should have changed the registry which is probably what NMM is using to try to determine where to look. Otherwise I would take this problem to the NMM "Open Beta Feedback" forum. It seems to be an NMM issue rather than an FNV one, given the INI files are all present in the correct locations. -Dubious-
Spartan919
I did reinstall NMM. I even installed an older version (0.62.2 which worked flawlessly for me), and the problem was still present. I have posted a problem in the butt reporting section, and I hope this gets figured out. Thanks for all your help, dubiousintent ^_^
