Fillout32
Hello, i want to prevent catastrophic situation of me realising-mid-game-that i messed something really up and i realise, that concretely by merging things together, it´s actually very easy to do(to mess things up). For start, I would like to know, if this process is in fact beneficial performance-wise, even, if i have "only" around 80 plugins? If no, i will prefer safety and just put my hands of merging. If yes, then i would like to merge and then i would be curious, which tool is the best. Is it FNV Plugin Utility by Scripter Ron ? Other mystery for me is, which stuff is considered as safe to merge and which stuff isn´t ? For example can i safely merge stuff like Delay DLC, Realistic Reloading, JIP Improved receipe menu into YUP ? Thank you for any help.

FNVEdit and doing it by hand for safe mods, especially if they have any kind of patches for them. Other mystery for me is, which stuff is considered as safe to merge and which stuff isn´t ? If things have MCM menus, you'll have to be proficient somewhat in scripting to merge them. Probably not a good idea to merge heavily scripted mods like those without knowing what you're doing. I wouldn't merge anything with YUP. You can merge small tweak mods, armor mods, and weapon mods fairly easily but you need to pay attention if they have patches for compatibility. Don't merge quest mods, that will create more headache than you want.
dubiousintent
There are two distinct types of merging: "merging plugins" to reduce the number of active plugins (which count against "active plugin cap" of around 140); and the "merged patch" (what Wrye Bash/Flash calls the "Bashed Patch"), which combines specific records from different plugins so only conflicting records have a winner; and non-conflicting ones from plugins that would otherwise be excluded by the "winner", still get included. See this entry in the wiki article "FNV General Mod Use Advice" for a broad view of both types and their processes, and why each is useful. I've not heard any claims that "merging plugins" affects performance. The "merged patch" does if your definition of performance includes "maximizing mod effects". I find it indispensable.
