pixely noise in Alpha channel... WHY?

So, i'm working on a texture file for skyrim which requires an alpha channel. I successful create the channel and using Nvidias DDS tool w/ PS CS5, 32&64bit i export the texture out as DTX5 interpolated alpha... done awesome.. however for some odd reason when the file gets saved it DESTROYS the alpha channel... reopening this file and inspecting the alpha show very grainy noise, black and white specks all over where soft gradients of white to grey to black used to be. any ideas?

 

i'll use gimp only if i must... not to comfy w/ its UI.
