King's Quest!

yes i played it. It was the first of two game I ever had for my "IBM PC Junior" PC back in the day.

then later i got the 'collection'. Sierra always loved to (in their earlier days) spoof fairy tales, and one can easily appreciate all of the references they made - billy goat gruff, jack & the beanstalk, hansle & grettle, the golden egg, rumplestiltskin...

It took me a while to figure out how to get the fiddle form the farmer and how to finally beat the game (shield, mirror, chest).

the game wasn't all that long if you knew exactly what you were doing, but if not it could take hours / days to figure it out.

The "Mask of Eterinty" was okay but..... damn... there shouldn't have been all of that 'combat'. King's quest was about quests and puzzle solving, not about fighting. So that they tried to taylor to a new audience really destroyed the series (kind of makes you see how history repeats itself with Bethseda and "Oblivion").

Oh I know.. you were finding all of the "jewelery" for your bride to be.. simple plot but the puzzles were quite hard the first time around.

Again, that series in general was a good thing - the predecessor to "Myst", if you ask me ^_^

My favorites of the series are KQ 1 (redone version) KQ 6 and 7, and Mask of Eternity. I also liked the first Laura Bow. One question: in a few of the KQ's, especially 1 and 2, you can find secret stashes of jewelry in random places. But what are they for? At the end of 2 (I think it was 2) you rescue the princess, and I tried giving her the jewelry but it was an invalid move.

Command: "Get Clover"

it was just a point value - the more you found, the higher your point total was.

In KQ 1 there was a ring that turned you invisible and you could use that to get past the rat, if you didn't have the cheese (and it would be gone after that use), but the cheese was the best route, because keeping the ring gave you higher points.
