Does anyone have any advice for dealing with the Bethesda Stutter?

I guess my PSU could be responsible for the lower bench results. it's a 500w psu - which on paper should be just barely enough to support what I have. but it was one of the more solid PSUs around when I bought it, and the most expensive one in its class. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that PSU specs are kind of ambiguous, and most of the time a premium quality 500w will have more power output than a cheap 900w.

But, with regards to the thread topic - this only helps to remove any possible blame from the SSD (which would make sense, because I haven't felt that the SSD has anything wrong with it - plus the other drive behaves the same way with fallout). I suspected windows to be the cause from the beginning, but the reason I made the thread was to see if there was a way to fix this problem that wasn't as severe as reinstalling windows.

so, for now I think we can concede that my hardware probably isn't to blame for fallout's stutter. I'll be reinstalling windows as soon as I get my hands on the new motherboard - but I'd still like to track down where windows is (probably) failing. I mean, is it corrupt drivers? is it just an inevitable thing on months old windows installations?

I just realized that "Skyrim: Special Edition" just came out - so I figure I might as well install it and see if the stutter is there. I did test regular skyrim earlier in the thread, and the problem wasn't there, but the special edition should be much more similar to FO4 from a technical standpoint.

I own Skyrim normal with all the bells and whistles. From topics about the sse, I won't be going there. SSE ? for what it's worth, I wish you luck with it. Me, not interested in another fiasco game from this publisher. Redit shows too much hate for the strange Ideas of Bethesda shipped out to the mass entertainment business.

IF you do get a bad result, what's to say it is them ? But from reading twitters feed, lol I would go to Vegas and place a bet it is. I might win too.

yeah well I wasn't installing it to play it - I just wanted to see if the problem was isolated to fallout 4.

turns out it isn't. skyrim special edition does have the stutter, although it's drastically less severe than in fallout. I'm going to guess the reason it's less severe is that the material files are much lower quality in skyrim.

I'm pretty confident at this point that the problem is linked to the loading of materials - but I just don't understand how windows could be interfering with that process.

If the OS has an issue, those issue can show up in the event manager of the OS as system cautions or some sort of thing that targets the games processes.

Then again, it's a Bethesda game, and a patchy mess. The release copy has very little issues if ran through an isolation process , I use Mod Organizer 2, The game, Original content is burnt to a Blue ray DVD and ran directly off of it VIA MO. yes, I get some errors, or the game tries to complain, the program complains but it runs, and without flaws. The only time I have experienced issues was using a mod made to replace all the textures in the game for Floral, a controversy mod. That mod made some places in the game world space stutter and invisible...buildings and landscapes. other than that, the issue was so trivial I did not bother fixing things.

I played Fo4 to death and got bored with the game, steam's constant updating Due to the publisher of the game pushing fixes for something that should not have required it.

Now, SSE is in the same category.

So, bottom line for the publisher? they should not have fired the last crew, they should have given the good people raises and fixed the products they sold / sell.

But you learn from it and avoid it. Beat a dead horse, it's still just a dead horse.

The hard drive vs the ssd drive:

On the ssd.................Installed and ran the game on the drive, it runs at or around / near 30%, no where near product claims.

It can't hold it's boot records Either NTDL file gets wiped. So the drive has been tested under the same circumstances on a different mother board.

I'll just keep it to store downloads on but not for anything useful.

so you have at lest 1 answer to the questions posted about here.

that's interesting. 30% was the number I was coming to as well.

I was in the middle of setting up the windows test, and something went seriously wrong. My storage drive seems to have been wiped. I had to order another hard drive just to recover the lost data - so I have to wait for that to get here before I can attempt the test again.

Try running it with medium textures & medium shadows, less ENB memory setting, and 4X HQ AF. It seems like it did more than running a texture optimization mod, though I didn't test all the mods for that. Ultra volumetric & God ray eats up most of the performance I'd say. Which you should turn that s*** off at least once, because it doesn't add all that much. I can't really tell the difference either way, ultra settings or medium, s*** looks the same mostly, because it plays off whatever the texture streamer wants to do. Which distance settings for that are increased with the FO4 configurator. So it's either one or the other, ultra Vol & God ray with medium texture/shadows or ultra textures without Vol & God ray.

Even still there's going to be collision an camera interaction stutter as well as wasteland loading stutter. It could just be the game's performance doesn't meet your standards with whatever current configuration that you have with your computer. Though, there was that guy that sacrificed much of the settings in order to establish a 60 FPS lock, and another fella that noticed some video cards didn't run FO4 so well. Seems like everybody can get this running eventually on PC except you, which sucks. Sorry about that, try again later aye. If it was me I'd just wait till next year an get a butch XBO/PS4, and bet on certification. You know cause windows & un-certified games just screwed you over.

Well, I wasn't asking other to join the nightmare, because it is an exclusive club..getting zapped from no where..out of the blue.

I do know it's not restricted to ssd's. I read the stories this morning on Washington post and a few other what Microsoft is doing, Google concerns about the operating systems "flaws", So it's is the end of the old, and I know, they wll succeed in removing all the older systems off the planet in favor for windows 10.

it's cool, Ubuntu is exempt. lol.

In case others in this thread are interested, it turns out there is an ignore feature in your settings. You can add someone's name to your ignore list and they will no longer take up large chunks of visual real estate in your thread.
