viperpine
Let me first say Im British and have nothing against Americans as people but, compared to Oblivion, a much higher percentage of the voice acting in Skyrim uses American voices. I know there are lots of people out there who, like me, basically finds this to be 1) out of place and 2) something that really destroys immersion. Why? Well , this is an 'old world' type setting , so orks and elves that speak like they are from Houston, Texas is just plain nuts in my opinion. lol (* I dont mean the times when you hear a voice actor trying to put on a 'Nordic' accent... that's totally cool... : ) its more the ones where the character just sounds like a NASCAR commentator or Sarah Palin)Mod request : could someone take mercy and design a mod that gives you the option to remove the undisguised American voice acting? No need to replace it at all , I would honestly rather just read the subtitles and keep the other voices. TheMango55
You know all accents that are currently spoken are actually modern and sound nothing like they would have in the middle ages. Right? I mean if it's just personal bias then I can understand, but American accents are no more out of place than British. No. While some national accents are still not the same as those of the middle ages, they are less out of place than others. Im a language teacher who has , among other things, studied the development of English since Chaucer's time. There's nothing less suitable and more immersion breaking than ( for example ) the accent of that blonde woman in the Riften thieves guild... I half expected her character to start saying things like " Hey dude, You finished that heist job for me?... cool-mmm aint you a badass?!" Its just impossible to take her seriously as a master theif in an old world Skyrim setting . Sorry but for me its the single most annoying thing in the game. Anyway! enough ranting... lol Im just wondering if it would be difficult or easy to make a mod like this. Logically I would think it would only require the removal of some particular sound files?? TheMango55
If she had a modern british accent I could equally say she sounds more like she should be working at a local fried chip shop. Modern british accents are no closer to medievel language than modern american accents. Again, I can understand personal bias though. It won't be hard once the construction set comes out probably. Simpson3k
I do asume it rather needs to remove the links to that "soundfiles" in some raw game files wich prolly are hardcoded. Simply removing the soundfiles prolly rather leads to a crash or some error message. However, even as german player, playing the english game, i can undestand you in this. I would hate to play a midage themed game in german where some npc´s speak like shopkeepers of a bayrish beergarden^^
Terralventhe
Personally, I'd like to see new Nord voices. These guys don't sound like Nords, they sound like Ahnuld.
AphoticPhoenix
Me thinks someone hasn't met Barbas, who has a VERY pronounced regional American accent. Vex (the thieves guild blonde) is hardly an offender in comparison, and is voiced by Kari Wahlgren; a rather popular voice actress. You're entitled to your opinion, but I don't blame Bethesda for hiring someone who has her professional pedigree.

Bumping is against the rules. If we allow indiscriminate bumping then the first several pages of every forum would be nothing but bump bump bump. You get a strike for not reading the rules and all of your bumps removed.Bben46. Moderator
bassist02324
<--- An American who can.... manage to agree with OP. Voices are kind of boring.
monshael
It's too much work involved to replace the voices. Need either a lot of real people from a lot of places to give more realistic and varied voices or some willing pros who'd do the new voice-overs for free/low-budget and i don't even know if there might be any legal problems with something like this.Otherwise, to avoid crashes, one would have to make silent copies of the original voice files, or, if dragon script and/or SKSE allow it, use a plugin which activates a silent voice sound file for whichever NPCs one finds annoying.
