Parallax Maps

Hey,

I want to create some parallax texture maps for a mod and I'm not really sure how I go about doing that. I'm using Photoshop CS3 and have the Nvidia Plugin for DDS files, but I'm really stumped. Am I missing something? I googled this and couldn't find anything helpful.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Not quite sure what you mean by parallax in this case...

'Parallax Maps' is a term that Tod Howard used in one of the oblivion gameplay demonstration videos. He was referring to what we now call normal maps (or what I call bump maps).

Yeah, that's what got me confused. I kept finding the term "Normal Maps" while googling for a tutorial but thought that maybe it was just another way to say Color Map. Thanks again for getting that cleared up! I should now be able to make some progress on my mod.

Ok, small mistake here: normal maps and bump maps are not the same thing. If you're actually doing 3d modeling work, don't mix the two, they do have some technical differences (short form: normal mapping is a more advanced version of bump mapping, and does more to alter the object surface, where bump mapping just produces an illusion).
