RuaDragonheart
So after building a new computer, I installed Fallout 3 and performed extensive mod testing to find the source of an old problem with Lings Finer Things. It never appeared, and I felt myself to be safe from conflicts for the time being. The process was simply to start a new game and take myself as far as Tenpenny Tower upon exiting Vault 101, and making a save there, just before the gate, and then installing each mod one at a time, and checking each time to see if it caused the error. I had forgotten the autosave, however, which had given me a file just within Tenpenny Tower, and I used that for the conflict check after disabling further autosaves. After this testing, I decided to be sure, I went back and loaded up the save before the gate once all of my mods were installed, and therein lies the problem. After the slew of messages from Bortherhood Patrols, Alton, Groovatron, and Enhanced Weather and the like... it would start to rain, and my rad meter would appear and increase, courtesy of Enhanced Weather. And then, curiously, a red ! diamond would appear around my character, slowly materializing. It would persist even as I entered Tenpenny Tower, to find numerous red ! diamonds set about the lobby. Furthermore, many of the residents, including Susan Lancaster, were missing their bodies entirely, leaving only their hands and their heads visible. And the hands were colored bright purple, signifying a missing texture error. Some NPCs, such as the security guards and the doctor, retained their full body, though their arms and hands were still colored purple while their heads and faces seem fine. But it doesn't stop there. Upon pressing Esc to bring up the menu, it'd come up... bright purple. More texture errors--and when I click load to load up a different save... well, it said that the data for the save files weren't there, and they wouldn't load upon clicking them. Exiting the menu retained the purple lighting and I could still not load up a different save. The problem, thus far, has only persisted on this one save file before talking to Gustavo to open the gate to Tenpenny Tower. Loading the autosave of me already in the tower shows that there's nothing wrong within it or outside of it. I have toggled ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, and have tried the Master Update, which seems to have done more harm than good, as I now can't run the game without the mods (except for Fallout Remastered) being in .esm format. Jeoshua
IS that Remastered 0.9? There was some extra data that found it's way in there. Basically you're missing meshes. Go back to 0.85 for the time being, or wait until I've finished 0.
RuaDragonheart
IS that Remastered 0.9? There was some extra data that found it's way in there. Basically you're missing meshes. Go back to 0.85 for the time being, or wait until I've finished 0.91 The latest Fallout Remastered zip I have on my HDD is labeled "Fallout_Remastered_-_Main_Package-16928-0-85" so I'm assuming it is 0.85. And you don't have any old version options listed on the Nexus download anyway.
Jeoshua
No but I do have 0.85 and the new 0.91 hotfix listed separately. Anyways, I was fixing a Tenpenny missing mesh error when I came along this post, noticed your location and problem, and thought it was the same. But just now, I looked at the picture of the diamonds. These are DIFFERENT missing meshes than the ill-fated 0.9 had. Something to do with the planters and the chandelier, not the track lights as I had originally thought. You mentioned in the Bethsoft thread that you've been narrowing the problem down. Any luck finding which file is making the references? Because it is that you're missing meshes that you're getting the <!>. Edited December 15, 2011 by Jeoshua
RuaDragonheart
Still working on it; only now just started back up after going to bed. Still nothing so far, and I'm about halfway through the testing still.
RuaDragonheart
The problem appeared once more as I turned on Brotherhood of Steel Diversification and Brotherhood Outcast Diversification. Noting how the problem activates when it starts raining (due to Enhanced Weather mod), I went back and turned that off, while keeping the Diversification mods on. The problem did not appear upon the following start-up. Any idea how a weather mod could conflict with a mod that adds different armor to certain Brotherhood members? EDIT: Oh, but it gets better. I turned on all the other mods I had been using, and now when I open up my pip-boy, my PC raises up the forearm, despite me using the PipBoy Readius mod, which would bring up the hand instead. The pipboy would also give me a red ! diamond model error, and make my character's body disappear, sans the head, hands, and feet. And the other errors would also appear. Curiously enough, this only happens after I cross the threshold of Tenpenny Tower, past the gate--if I don't go through the gate, the error doesn't appear. And the problem is no longer restricted to the one save file; it now affects my autosave as long as I exit Tenpenny Tower via that gate. I have managed to narrow this error down to the Outcast Collection Agent Expanded - DLC Plugin and the Pipboy Readius mods. I turned off the Readius mod, and the red ! diamond error stopped appearing. However, the inside-the-building errors (missing objects, textures) still occur. Turning off the Collection Agent mod solves that problem. However, I have used both of those mods together in the past without such a problem occurring. With the EwwGhoulyBody.esp activated, and had missing model and texture errors appear within the Tower. It also did not trigger the pink menu screen or save file missing data issues. Not all of the missing models are there, either--the rope hand rails at the entrance are appearing, but NPC bodies and triple-bulb lights on the ceiling are not. Ainz Beautiful Eyes, another mod I've used in the past, causes the ceiling lights in the tower to disappear as well, but nothing else. The Groovatron files, a more recent addition, causes the whole slew of indoor problems to appear--hand rails and ceiling lights missing, bodies missing, textures freaking out, and the pink menu screen and save file problems.
