Spl1nt3rC3ll
An NPC showing up occasionally on the roads and in towns labeled "Dovakiin" or "Dragonborn" would actually be pretty neat for RPers. Imagine fighting a dragon alongside the Dovakiin. He could look like the default trailer version. If you want to hardcore RP, you could take away the soul absorbing and give it to him. cppcooper
Actually this would be kind of cool. Maybe have the ability to create the main character's face and all that, then choose an NPC from the game to play as. Design some AI(if possible) to control the main character and have them play through all the quests in the game, talking to all the NPCs they find trying to find more quests. Possibly even finding you and then there should be some option to marry the dragonborn or have them marry you. It would be pretty cool.
AtlasS
Lol, reading through this the only thing I could think of is "I find a word wall, I dont learn the word.... I know! I'll write a little letter and send it by curior(sp?) to the dragonborn... and sign it "a friend""
Velyanthe
@NorthernMonkey, There was a mod like this for Morrowind, I remember, and for Oblivion. They both placed you at certain areas, with a bit of equipment and gold, based on your status, and at a level you chose for the Oblivion one. You had to get caught and go to Imperial jail for the Oblivion MQ to start, and go to the Census building to start the Morrowind one. I definitely think there will be a similar one for Skyrim. Having someone else as Dovahkiin would be an awesome addition. A hunter, a villager, a noble, a soldier, a mage at the College, an adventurer in a ruin, a prisoner on a ship... There was a mod suggestion I saw not long ago where a person could own a store, build a new city, etc. that I think would go very well with this idea. @strayztski, You cannot progress through Imperial or Stormcloak questlines without the MQ. Naikado2
I would actually kind of like to be the companion of the main character as opposed to actually being the main character. :3 I don't think that if one could be casually found, I don't think that they should be named as Dragonborn, but should have regular names or just generic NPC names like "Nord" or "Argonian", and you may be able to catch them shouting (which if you really wanted to take this far, you could confront/ask them about this like NPCs tend to do to you). davesoft
Haha, or a mode where you start as the dragonborn's wife. A hardcore blacksmith/enchanter with mara's necklace and the warmaiden's shop as a home. The hero goes off on the scheduled quests and pops back with loot, gear, food and a little gold. You can go with him on the quest or make him some better gear so he comes back alive. Depending on the player this could divide the main quest in half if the player knew how to trigger the next quest (maybe talk about it when the dragonborn gets home) or cut out the quest entirely leaving the player free to sidequest and still get the loot left at home. When the creation kit arrives a few tweaks could change skyrim. Adrienna says she informs the jarl etc. Perhaps that's your job now.. and perhaps the civil war will kick off without the dragonborn's input and you need to equip the troops. Blacksmithing is a bit limited to focus the game around at the moment, but a mix of that and RTS-style prep-and-fight quests could be fun.
EKMSkyrim
I really like this Idea, I mean it is againsty will to not be the Hero of legend, I mean in the story of our characters , arent we the Heroes alwais?! But what I am all for is the different begginings, maybe you can be a legionaire and still be a Dragonborn, but in the end the other Dragonborn saves the day! Hahaha Why choose one thing when we can have it all! MUAHAHAHA! And an Evil storyline would be interesting
harowan
I think this is a good idea :) I don't like having so much power quite so soon and I know what you mean about being "commonborn" But I think someone would need to flesh out the more trivial of events, like socialising in an inn, marriage, buying a house, you know the normal stuff. efikmalydoskonaly
I like the idea, but I don't think it's that necessary. I understand the urge not to play the Mighty Hero - usually in TES games I play my "main character" through the main quest as well as some mage-related and random quests, but when I feel a need for a different style of play (like: a hunter) I make a second character who is just a commoner, doesn't do the main quest and just does the questlines that I skipped in the previous game (like companions or fighters). In Skyrim it's quite easy to skip the MQ, I mean - don't go to Jarl in Whiterun, and that's it - the world will never know you're dragonborn. I know that it's not a perfect solution but I just fear that this mod that you are proposing could break a lot of things in game and be incompatible with some future DLCs. There was one or two mods of that sort for Oblivion and I remember that they messed with my game a lot :(
Zerux
Great idea. Personally I would like to play a common thief/assassin, and play through the game without ever dying (and nevertheless killing a lot). I guess only true roleplayers understand the appeal of this.
