A few Questions

Shadowtroop

Recommended Posts

Ive been playing skyrim for about 85 hours now and i have noticed a few hiccups that i would like to ask about

1. Time of day. is it me or does the sun in skyrim move in increments? i was talking to an npc with the shadow of a mountain in the background and i noticed that instead of the shadow moving slowly, it moves like 5 inches every 15 seconds. i find it really annoying and it breaks immersion. is this normal, if so is there a mod that can fix this?

2. Metal clamoring in the background. this happens in a lot of inns and in the jarls quarters. i start a conversation and there is a very annoying metalic clammoring in the background like a sword or a tankard is slamming against the wall or something over and over. This usually only happens in dialoge and if i tab out the noise stops.

3. INI file tweaks. i was messing around with the ini files as according to Valstein0's mod and it worked fine for a while. I decided to up the AA to 8x and nce i did that my shadows were back to the default settings. I tried to tweak them again but nothing happened.

1. It's the shadows. Terrible quality overall. And yes, they move by a bit periodically, once each X ingame minutes, not sure if it's 10 or more.. And yes, it's normal. Along with jagged looks.

2. Most likely some decorative item (a plate, tankard...) "fell" trough an object while loading the area / game and now is stuck in a weird place such as between wardrobe and a wall. And as it can't move either way, it sort of vibrates...and makes the annoying sound. Also very common and normal. Stops when you tab, because tab stops the time and movement in the gameworld. Not sure about fix, apart from finding and picking up/dragging the object.

3. Delete all the inis, start the game, quit the game, set your graphics again, reapply tweaks.

Well, to be honest, I have no idea what Valstein mod is, tho 99%(random number, but you get my point) of ini tweaking can be redone / undone / reapplied by letting the game generate new ones. If it was only about ini tweaking tho, I believe this would fix it, so any chance something else caused it? Like some performance patches, texture packs? Edited by elvinkun

well i also am running crossfire so i have atiumdag.dll file installed to increase performance. I also have dragonscript installed for an enhanced perk mods, and Skyrim 4gb launcher. besides those three things everything else i have modded is texture or mesh related with i highly doubt would mess with anything.

when i delete the ini files, the game generated the new ones. and i could see that they were applying my in game settings like gamma and difficulty. but they would not apply my tweaks, for example I tried to tur off vsync or mouse acceleration but it would not take.

I fear I would be lying if I told you that I know what might be the problem, I suggested those, because I know that certain texture packs make my shadows display in a bit of a weird manner, "bbq grids" on walls and such, then also ENB patches can mengle with shadows on higher settings I think.

DS shouldn't be any problem, as it's not touching graphics in any matter, same with the LAA.

But if you can't tweak anything in the inis, I'm not sure what the problems is. Are you sure you are doing it in the right ini in the right place? (not trying to be offensive, just looking at possible causes)

im 99% positive im tweaking the right file (MyDocuments/My Game/ Skyrim/Skyrim preffs)

when i changed the brightness in game it showed on th ini file, but when i changed the vsync value nothing happened.

im going to just delete all my local content and reinstall. i have the retail copy so its not too much of a hassle.

Well, this might be partially offtopic, but I just remembered that since 1.3 I can't "tweak" my mouse settings in the inis, no matter what I change, it has no effect, apart from mouse sensitivity being set to defaul one I start the game. I haven't really tryed changing anything else, I have rather antique computer, so I'm just glad I can play on high without FPS problems, haven't really tried to make anything better than it is, would hate to disturb the ...balance.

Guess that's just me tho, if inis couldn't be tweaked since 1.3 there would be hell lot of posts about it I believe.
