nifscope mesh editing

i was going to "beef up" some armors, but nifscope won't let me edit them without making textures look completely wrong.

whenever i click on a NiNode, it selects the entire mesh. when i actually manages to select one, and remove it, then my texture becomes stretched. :confused:

it only happens in skyrim! what am i doing wrong, and is there some sort of workaround?
