letterbomb815
My game takes like 30-40 seconds to load up. Normally I wouldn't care so much, but everytime I go into a house, or fast travel, it seems just as long to load. I think the obvious is: I have a lot of texture mods that probably take longer to load. But does this sound normal? Also, my system can handle the game. It gets a constant 60 FPS. Have 8gb Ram, Quad core 3.2ghz, GTX 580 The game itself is super smooth, and gorgeous. No lag, stutter, or frame rate issues. I'm assuming the long load times are just all the high resolution mods I'm running. But just wanted to double check here with you guys, and see if this sounds unusual. (Oh, and I am using the 4gb launcher. I can't use the regular exe, because it just crashes due to the limited memory). PR4Y
since you stated your GPU, CPU, and RAM... i'm guessing you don't realize that your HD actually plays a HUGE (if not 100%) part in your load times. sure, your graphics card can render complex textures and terrain mapping...sure, your CPU can handle even the most complex functions / formulas in the game enginesure, your RAM can keep everything running along smoothly by distributing work loads and queuing commands / queries.... but guess where all that information comes from? You (probably didn't) guessed it! The hard drive! If you are running on anything less then a sata 3gb/s HD, you are running a low end PC. your PC is only as good as it's weakest component, and since you didn't list your HD specs and are complaining about HD related gameplay issues... i'm going to guarantee you have a cheap $30 HD. letterbomb815
I didn't mean to come off as complaining. I fully admit my ignorance. I have a 2tb harddrive but know nothing about the specs. Never had trouble before running heavy intensive games so I always assumed my HD was up to snuff. But now I know. Guess I'm going to have to look into a new HD to bring my system up to the other parts. Edited December 17, 2011 by letterbomb815
PR4Y
OK so don't take this the wrong way, i'm just going to tell you straight up (from an IT-pro... B.S. in Computer Science and 15 years in the field) a 2tb HD is a waste of money, for many reasons. 1. you sacrifice a HUGE chunk of PERFORMANCE for that big capacity. My guess is it's either 5400 or 7200 RPM sata (bad)2. anyone knowledgeable on PC hardware will tell you that if a HD's capacity is over 500GB, it's life expectancy drops exponentially.3. using a single drive for your operating system, daily applications, documents, movies / music, ect... bad idea. you are putting ALL your eggs in 1 basket with a giant HD like that. I'm guessing you don't have any backups of any kind of your HD.... and even if you did, you only have 1 hard drive.... so if that shits the bed, you are S.O.L. bud. OK now that i've informed you where your computer sucks, i'll tell you what you can do to fix it and get it running like a boss. 1. get a 32gb or 64gb solid state drive. install JUST the operating system on it. (you can get away with putting a game or two on it, if you REALLY need load screens down to like 1-2 seconds)2. get dual 250-500gb HD's that are SATA 3gb/s (no need for 6gb/s yet, the i/o capabilities aren't even there yet) and slap them onto a RAID 0/1 array controller.3. install all daily applications / documents / ect. onto the RAID hard drives. you will now have a LIVE backup of ALL your data, and you will increase the performance of your computer by 10fold... solid state drives can boot your computer from cold in 5-10 seconds... imagine the load screens for skyrim? hope this helps. BTW i'd suggest the OCZ vertex 64gb SSD... very affordable, reliable, and ppd (performance per dollar) is GREAT with the vertex line of products.
