panurgy
One thing to keep in mind is that you don't have to follow those lists exactly, but they make good starting points. Frostfall, Camping (and similar theme mods like Hunterborn) are great. Frostfall is IMO one of the all-time best Skyrim mods. But I only use it every 3-4 playthroughs, because it significantly changes the gameplay. Sometimes I want a more simple game. I personally switch up mods a lot based on the type of character I play. I usually split things up: Survival - Mage - Warrior - Thief - Assassin - Dragonborn. If I play Dragonborn I don't use Alternate Start. For every other style I do. For mages, I use 10 - 20 mage specific mods that I ignore for other characters. A survival playthrough is a mix of one of the other styles + survival mods (iNeed or Realistic Needs & Diseases, Frostfall, etc.). Using MO, I create a "base mod" profile. In my case that would be ~120 mods plus texture and mesh replacers. Those are mods that I use every time I play (like SMIM, USLEEP, iHud, Immersive Armors, etc.). Then I copy that profile and create a warrior profile, a survival profile, etc. It's useful to have a separate vanilla profile as well.
TeofaTsavo
So with SkyUI can I have the mod installed as it is required for other mods, but still revert back to the vanilla more controller friendly menus ? Using the MCM options within SkyUI ? I'm also looking at ENB mods to handle much of the visuals in one mod, is that a common way to do things ? I'm finding this slightly intimidating and want to make sure I get Skyrim set up the way I want it right from the start. I'm following Gopher tutorials on youtube. After installing SkyUI you would install SkyUI-Away, which then leaves you with just the MCM component active with all other UI and controls returning to controller style. I use it because of Extreme Arthritic deformation of my hands. I simply do not have a lot of keyboard dexterity and find a controller to be a bit more friendly.
