Kifyi
I installed a couple mods that change meshes that weren't really updated for SSE. Better Vanilla Hair from kebrus being one of them. But when I tried to install files from About Horses from darkgondul I got missing meshes with the big exclamation mark for all the horses even though the horse.nif was there, in the correct place. I double checked that SSE didn't use a different file structure too with the BSA unpacker. Opening the file with nifskope there is a visible horse mesh, it doesn't seem to be corrupted or anything. Anyone have any ideas why the basic replacement mesh wouldn't work from this mod? It seems like things that are just meshes or textures work for SSE, mostly, but not this one. Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a dumb question. :/
Kalell
Some meshes won't work on SSE, but most are fairly easy to fix with NifSkope. Here's a link that explains how to fix them (check out the meshes section): http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/4633-skyrim-se-things-to-know-when-converting-standard-mods-to-sse/ The problem with strips is mentioned there but it doesn't entirely explain how to fix it. Basically, if the mesh has NiTriStrips instead of NiTriShape you can fix it using NifSkope by right clicking on the block, mousing over mesh, and selecting triangulate. That will convert NiTriStrips to NiTriShape. Then just follow the directions in the link I posted and it should work in the game now.
Kifyi
Thanks so much Kalell! You're awesome. Definitely going to try that out. Edit: Well looking at it in Nifskope the mesh uses shapes, not strips, and following those instructions (after updating Nifskope) didn't seem to change anything either, unfortunately. Kalell
Thanks so much Kalell! You're awesome. Definitely going to try that out. Edit: Well looking at it in Nifskope the mesh uses shapes, not strips, and following those instructions (after updating Nifskope) didn't seem to change anything either, unfortunately. If it already has shapes you can skip that step. I tried it and got the horse models into the game. You probably tried updating the skeleton meshes but they don't need to be updated. Try putting back the original skeleton meshes that came with the mod (skeleton.nif, skeleton CC.nif, and skeletonHM.nif) and see if it works. Edit: No, it didn't work. The horses I'm seeing are still the vanilla horses. I'm gonna have to mess around a bit and see if I can figure out what's happening. Kifyi
Well I definitely appreciate your time. I've been fiddling around with things trying to make it work but no luck so far. But be aware the replacer it gives the vanilla horses isn't drastically different, just slims them up a bit, makes them taller.
Kalell
Then maybe what I'm seeing is the modded horses. I'm going to try something to make sure. Edit: Yeah, what I'm seeing is the modded horses. I scaled the mesh in NifSkope just to be sure: http://i.imgur.com/bvANflY.jpg Edit 2: I also tried the original file without updating the meshes and it worked. If you haven't already, maybe try downloading the file again. Unfortunately I'm not sure what's causing the meshes to not show in your game. Kifyi
Oh okay, well thanks so much for your time! That's uh.... A mighty fine horse you got there. >_> I'll try redownloading it and see if that does anything for me. Edit: Redownloading didn't change anything. I'll keep futsing with it although I'm running out of ideas. Edit 2: So I downloaded the old version of the file, 1.2, and for some reason that seems to work. All I can say is big ol' shrug :| Thanks again for your help and taking the time to look into it! Edited October 31, 2016 by Kifyi
