i have no idea what the hell i'm doing. (FCOM)

alright, so i'm getting back into oblivion, and decide to go all out on mods, and hear of the FCOM deal. if you don't know, it works to get OOO, MMM, francesco's overhaul, warcry, and bob's armory to all work together nicely. i followed the install instructions as best as i could, but still ran into problems.

the main issue seems to occur about 15 seconds into the actual game. i start a new game, skip the cutscene, and start making my character. regardless of what i do, about 15 seconds later i get a CTD.

i freshly installed the game, installed all the FCOM-related mods following the instructions on their website, set the load order correctly, created my bashed patch, and patched oblivion to 1.2. i tried with my entire mod setup, just the FCOM mods, and no mods at all and i still get this issue. any ideas?

i uninstalled and reinstalled, then patched, then installed mods, so i'm going to test now with only FCOM mods and see if anything happens. if everything's fine, i'll try and get other mods working like darnified UI, natural environments, and attack & hide. i'll edit this post in a few minutes depending on the situation.

load order as of now:

Oblivion.esm

Francesco's leveled creatures-items mod.esm

Francesco's optional new items add-on.esm

Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul.esm

Mart's Monster Mod.esm

FCOM_Convergence.esm

Francesco's optional chance of stronger bosses.esp

Francesco's optional chance of stronger enemies.esp

FCOM_francesco's.esp

bob's armory oblivion.esp

FCOM_bob's armory

oblivion warcry EV

FCOM_warcry (oops, forgot to list this the first time, it was activated)

OOO.esp

OOO-container-trap-instant-effects

FCOM_convergence

FCOM_safer roads

FCOM_no spiders (lol arachniphobia. no giant spiders for me thx)

FCOM_more random spawns

FCOM_more random items

FCOM_diverse guard unity

FCOM_bob's gurad unity

FCOM_archery

bashed patch, o.esp (is this always necessary?)

i'm going to test now, and i'll edit this post/reply in a few minutes with an update.

EDIT:

dammit, it still CTDs about 15 seconds into creating my character. I used those mods in that exact order I listed. i guess i'll try again without any of them and see if it still crashes. could this possibly be a corrupt oblivion.esm, or messed up .ini file? i re-installed, so i don't know what the problem could be.

edit2: oops, forgot to list the FCOM_warcry plugin. it was activated thuogh, so that isn't the issue.

alright, i uninstalled oblivion, reinstalled, installed the 1.2 patch, and installed all the FCOM-related mods following the instructions on the FCOM website to the letter, as well as the unofficial oblivion patch, which fixed my first issue of a CTD after about 15 seconds.

but then I CTD again shortly therafter. no idea why. it isn't consistent with me doing anything, a specific sound, or model, or even a hint of what mod it could be associated with. here's my enabled mods in their load order:

the oblivion.esp file is to load the francesco new items bsa without touching the .ini file. i wasn't told where in the load process to put it so i just set it later on, hoping it would be such a small effect that it wouldn't conflict.

the door fix is from the patch. it's just a minor sound fix, so i guess it can be disabled, although odds are really low that it's the problem.

the containers and traps instant effect is in hopes that once this female dog is up and running i can install immersive interface the way i want without CTDs from text timers. like the oblivion.esp file, i wasn't told precisely where to load this, so i put it later on.

the process i went through to produce the bashed patch is as follows, not sure if i did something i shouldn't have:

1: selected all mods with checks next to them

2: right-clicked on a selected mod and chose "mark as levelers..."

3: when that was done, i deselected them, selected the bashed patch, right-clicked it, and rebuilt it, making sure that the "leveled lists" option was checked.

4: when finished, i tested the game, and was promptly given the gift of disappointment.

could this be a hardware issue? do i fall into the OOO lite user category?

PCIE x16 X800

AMD 3200+

1279 MB (a 1GB stick plus whatever came with it. i should really buy a second and go dual-channel, but i don't have the cash atm)

my page file's about 1.7 GB.

i've seen all sorts of other people post their mod setups with FCOM working fine by itself, as well as with a jillion other mods, so i'm kind of frustrated. what would be best is if there were a simple tutorial i could follow to get a baseline no-frills FCOM setup working, just so i know i'm doing this right and can get it working. then i could install FCOM options and other mods just fine.

EDIT: i tried it with the ooo-lite installation now, and it's still broken. the crash seems to happen at a set time now too, about 30 seconds into the game. i've got a feeling that this won't be fixed unless someone that has intimate knowledge of FCOM's inner workings checks this situation out.

i'll keep checking in on this thread a bit, but i give up. i've uninstalled and reinstalled countless times over the past four days, and still have nothing to show for it.
