Bringing Dragons Down

Although I'm aware that this probably isn't possible (or at least rather difficult) without the Creation Kit, I thought I'd post this while I still had the idea in my head.

Having just fought, on master difficulty, another excrutiatingly slow fight with a dragon, it occurs to me that one simple addition would speed these fights up and make them much more engaging:

A way to knock dragons out of the sky!

Think about it: Wouldn't it be so much more enjoyable to have some control over how a fight with a dragon progressed? If you could knock dragons to the ground, it'd avoid a lot of the aggravating chases across the countryside where the heroic dragonborn fires arrows futilely at the dragon's backside.

A simple way for this to work, I imagine, would be to implement it either as a shout or a spell, and have it be a temporary effect to balance it. Around 20-30s before the dragon could take off again would probably be fair.

...If that isn't possible, then I'm all for just engaging the 'wounded crash' animation that sometimes occurs when you hurt a dragon enough.

A spell like this would also make fighting dragons as a melee character a lot more doable.

Thoughts?

Erm..i hate to say it but there is a way to knock dragons out of the sky.

Finish the main quest completely and then come back here and re-request the mod if you still want it.

...

Fair enough. Thanks for the heads up, haha. I guess I'll see what you refer to then throw whatever skill it is onto my next character via the console :X.

I usually find having a follower with a decent bow or an antronach shooting is about the best way to bring 'em down to the ground; they'll usually come down when their HP is below a certain point. Aside from that, be prepared to run around a lot to avoid getting strafed.

I re-rolled my character and discovered, yes, it is actually kinda hard to get a dragon's attention without magic, followers or other NPCs shooting arrows at it, or an atronach blasting away. But, I HAVE discovered a few things, for anyone needing such info:

When they appear dragons seem to circle over three or so areas in a given pattern, to me it looks kinda link a three looped figure eight. Going to one of those areas seems to draw the dragons' attention, and makes them more likely to attack. (Keep an eye out for trolls, bandits, or other baddies-- Dragons seem to find them before you do, and fighting melee battles on three or more fronts is best avoided, ideally.)

The other thing, useful if you're halfway up a mountain or some other very-difficult-to-navigate-quickly terrain, is the Shouts seem to work VERY nicely at getting a dragon's attention. Most spells seem pretty useless to me for this purpose, as are arrow, since the dragons move WAY to quickly to get a decent hit, but Shouts have a much wider cone of influence-- like the difference between a rifle and a shotgun, one is focused, the other is scattershot. Doesn't work 100% but I seem much more likely to get at least a partial hit, which can be enough to pull aggro, so to speak.
