Is there a way to make Holotapes duck the soundtrack?

Recommended Posts

So if you're listening to a holotape log, the background music stops playing?

Holotape logs are using the "Voice" selector and are considered "notes". It doesn't seem possible to use the Sound selector to make holotapes. They just don't do anything.

When you play a holotape, it interrupts the pipboy radio if it's playing, but the soundtrack remains playing in the background.

Is there a script or something that could be added that mutes the background music when playing holotapes?

You would think Holotape logs use the "Voice" selector, but Bethesda, because Bethesda, made it use the "Effects" category. You can change it pretty easily, just edit the record "AudioCategoryUIHolotape " (formid: 001275ca), changing the ONAM - Menu Slider Category from effects (000172a1) to Voice (000876bd).

It seems to make the background sound muffled, but it's hard to be sure since the background music isn't constant.

There might be a way to do that script, but someone with actually knowledge of scripting would need to chime in there. I hope fixing the game settings helps until then.

That's a really cool work around! I had a similar question as HomicidalGrouse on my to-do list, so I may give this a shot and see how it goes. Thank you!
