Zquinty
I don't have anything on my computer that lets me make models/meshes/textures etc. Obviously, this is seriously hindering my ability to make a mod... no matter how easy. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to software/programs that I should buy/download? (Links to websites are always nice, too) -thx. There are plenty of people out there who are able to make mods which do not use new textures or models. So either you are only thinking of things which are those special cases, or are only thinking of mod ideas which you "think" can be done if you have access to models and textures. In almost every case, what you are saying is not an "easy" mod. Second, there are a few stickies and threads around here which will lead you to the resources you need... Or atleast they were stickied. Regardless, doing a forum search for Blender and Gimp should hopefully yield some results.
Zquinty
That was helpful. I have blender and gimp now (also got nifSkope), but of course I have no clue how to use them properly yet... So begins my search of tutorials (not that I think that it is going to take very long). And you are right, I did have it a bit backwards. But by "easy" mods I meant just simple equipment mods where I would build a new sword or some such. (Then again, this probably isn't "easy" anyway... but then, what is? I had enough trouble figuring out how to move objects vertically with the mouse in TES... but it felt so good when I figured it out. ) Right now, I'm having trouble loading .nif files into blender - Is this even possible? (By this I mean that I'm not sure if Blender was designed for .nif files) Also, I can't get any textures into NifSkope - again, is this possible? All I really want right now is to be able to edit objects already in the Oblivion library in such a way that I can quickly preview the whole object the way it will look in-game. Yes I'm looking for tutorials, but if you have any links to tutorials that you think are good, I would appreciate it. And if I still have something confused or some such, tell me. by the way, just so I don't waste too much time, does the elder scrolls wiki even say a word about this stuff? (I didn't find much there, but I wasn't surprised) Thx
Duskrider
For the .nif import to Blender, you will need the appropriate plugin, it's not a file format Blender can use by default. I don't know where to find it, since I use 3dsmax, but a quick search should find it. As for "easy" mods, anything involving custom models is a bad idea. You should expect to spend a long time, as in weeks to months, learning the program and refining your skills before you can make something you'd want to release. If you're looking for a quick and easy solution, trying to make your own models will just leave you frustrated. Only do it if you really want to and are willing to invest the time required to learn. evilkoal
woah, wait a second, you can move things vert. in TESCS? wtf! could you please tell me how to do that?
LoginToDownload
Hold down 'Z' while you drag it about, (By holding down 'X' or 'Y', you can also move an object solely along those axes) or double-click on the object in question and set its position numerically. Rotation works on a similar principle.

soulweaver925
Wow...I was about to make a topic asking the same thing as this guy, lol. I'm pretty much in the same boat as him; I know it won't be easy, but I want to learn how to do this. I've had an idea for a cuirass since back in my noobish days... (OMG can you mod the 360?!?! yes, I'll admit I once asked that.) Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this. Hopefully someday I can achieve my goal. =P Practice makes perfect, yes? One can hope. Zquinty
For the .nif import to Blender, you will need the appropriate plugin, it's not a file format Blender can use by default. I don't know where to find it, since I use 3dsmax, but a quick search should find it. Strangely, I couldn't find anything that looked like it was what you mentioned here, perhaps someone could help me out and post a link? (yes, it probably won't take long for you to find it, but for some reason it seems like the plugin mentioned is hiding from me... jeez, I hate it when this happens.) And Sir Hygaard, it seems like these links just take me to downloads I already have... but I'll check again, I might have missed something obvious. :whistling: Even if what I'm looking isn't there, thx for the help. Thx all.
