Nineteen99
Problem: My game crashes about 30 seconds after I load my save. I recently got a new video card (nVidia GeForce 6200, an upgrade from my old 5200) and my Oblivion game has crashed like this ever since I installed it. One thing I remember hearing about is a setting in the .ini file that messes up nVidia users, but I can't remember what it is. If anyone knows I'll try that. I'm fairly sure it's not any of my mods, because they all worked fine before my new video card. At first I thought that it might have been the fact that I tweaked my .ini file, but I deleted the old one and had Oblivion re-detect my video card and make a new .ini, but the problem is still there. Any help would be appreciated. On a somewhat-similar note, I remember reading about a program that generates a list of the mods you're using, and I'd like to find that too. EDIT: I also don't believe the crashes are random, as they happen at exactly the same time, every time.
xenxander
6200? That's anicnet. If you're on a bugest but still want an okay card, get the 8600GT. For it's price you get a good vaule and you wont empty your coffers to get it.
Nineteen99
Thanks for the tip. Now about my current problem...
bben46
First, check to see if you have the latest drivers for your video card. the new one may use a different set of drivers than the old one. Then Check to see if you have the latest patch for oblivion - and the proper patch for your edition - Italian, English, Spanish etc. Nvidia cards running Oblivion have a problem with vsync, turn it off. Also, try turning off AA (Anti Aliasing ) and HDR ( I forget what that is right now) Then go to a lower resolution to see if that helps.
ShiamuraKai
May I ask how much RAM you're running on? Back when I tried to run Oblivion on a 512MB RAM it would always crash on me. After upgrading to 2gig RAM it no longer crashes. So the problem could be your RAM, or your card, but the card won't necessarily cause crashes, just run everything on extremely crappy quality and lag like hell if it's old enough. damstachizz
The video card is bad.and if you have under 512mb of ram, don't bother.get OldOblivion, and try that.
Nineteen99
To answer your question, ShiamuraKai, I've got 1G RAM. And I started a new game, and it runs just fine now. So I don't know what the deal was, but starting a new game seemed to have worked. Now I only get crashes sometimes when I close the game, but I'm fine with those, I guess.
