Black Rock Caverns

One of my characters recently entered the Black Rock Caverns and I am encountering numerous yellow luminescent boxes with exclamation marks on them... there doesn't seem to be anything in and are not solid...

Can anyone tell me what these are and why are they appearing? More so, how do I fix this or eliminate the issue?

Thanks in advance for any support!

- frustrated!

Missing meshes is your problem - Oblivion is looking for certain meshes that it can't find. I'm not sure what was supposed to be in Black Rock Caverns, but maybe somehow some meshes either were deleted or were moved somewhere else, but beyond that, the only thing I can suggest is looking in the CS (Construction Set) and find out what meshes are missing.

Usually missing meshes are caused by a mod that did not install properly. The meshes ( .NIF files) are supposed to go into the Oblivion\data\meshes folder. Many mods do not change any meshes at all. Those will only have an .esp file. check to see if any of your recently installed mods have extra meshes. They can be identified by the .NIF after the file name.

I have also come across missing meshes recently. In my case, I'm pretty sure it's the torch and fire meshes that are gone. THe problem is, I have no idea where to get replacement meshes and where to put them. I'm pretty sure this has something to do with installing Qarl's Redimized Texures...

Where would I find the torch meshes and where should I put them?

KomaruKirinashi if you lost the meshes when you installed the Quarl's then that's where you look for them. I don't use Qarl's Redimized Textures., but if when you installed it, it may have overwritten the original meshes. But if that's the case, It should have put new meshes in their place.. If you do find them, they go in the \data\meshes folder. I would expect a replacement texture mod to replace the textures (in the data\textures folder. Usually if you are missing textures you will get a strange color and a flat (untextured) look to items. He may have included some meshes in the mod though. LArge mods usually add their own subfolders to the meshes and textures folders. Look in your data folder and see if there is a folder there for Quarl's pack. if their is, that's probably where you will find your missing meshes. you need to manually move them into the texture folder - just copy the \meshes folder into your existing data\meshes folder andd the \textures folder into your existing \data\textures folder.

The original torch is in one of the files that are installed when you install Oblivion. To get it back you may need to reinstall Oblivion. Before you do that, save your data file - located in C:\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Data with a new name such as olddata. Then save your saved game folder, located in C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\my documents\my games\Oblivion - rename the entire \Oblivion folder here as that contains all of your saved games and the oblivion.ini that you are using. call it somthing like oldoblivion.

Then, using your original CD uninstall oblivion. Reboot the computer to clear out any old data.

Reinstall Oblivion, do not put you old files back in yet, start the game and make a save. If you have Shivering Isles install that before you install any patches. Then again start the game and make a save.

Then download and install the latest patch for your language version only - If you are using Shivering Isles only install the Shivering Isles patch. If you are not using Shivering Isles, only install the latest Oblivion patch.

Again start the game and test it to be sure it is working properly. Then you can save the new \data as newdata and rename the olddata to data. also, rename the new documents & settings Oblivion folder as Newoblivion and rename the oldoblivion back to just oblivion.

At that point you will have a new install with all of your old data and save games. If you still have the problem, it is one of the mods you installed. and you can go back to the new versions and add mods one at a time until you find it.

Hope this helps.
