yourmomx8
I decided to start a new game so I went through the sewer tutorial and all that but when I used the sewer exit my game crashed on the loading screen so I assumed it was probably a mod. So I went to my data files and unchecked EVERYTHING EXCEPT the master file (.esm or whatever) so I use the sewer exit again and it loads okay except the ground and rocks and stuff is all bright pink! Even the roads in towns are pink and I'm not sure what to do... Should I just reinstall Oblivion?
batlham
do you use a texture replacer?do you run streamline? that can dork with settings... might be a archive invalidation problem. I am not sure...since I don't get those... try using the installation version of thishttp://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10724 if it does not help...I am at a loss...but it will help you out in the long run anyways
yourmomx8
I'll try your link, yes I had some mods that replaced plants, weather, water etc, that's probably the problem, I could probably just turn the mods back on that I took off to get through the sewer exit right? Yeah, but I wanted to know what caused this problem. EDIT: Tried your link and installed it but the game crashed upon loading my game.

yourmomx8
I'm pretty sure I am but I tried to update to the most recent anyway, but during the install it gave me an error that said: "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match." I'm guessing that's the problem? Couldn't I just re-install Oblivion to over-write my current Oblivion folder? Which would, in-theory "replace" all of my missing texture files. By the way that's what I'm assuming what the problem is, missing texture files. But then again, I'm only a beginner at this kind of stuff.

yourmomx8
I don't see how it would take long, just copy and paste SOME mods? that won't harm anything right? and I can keep my save files? I mean I wouldn't be uninstalling Oblivion, I would me OVERWRITING to REPLACE the "missing" texture files, I don't see how that would take very long. Also what did that error mean? Could it be because I have Oblivion installed in two different locations?
yourmomx8
Reinstalled, no luck, there is no pink if I creat3 a new game thought (I think.). I think the problem is that all my games/saves were made while I had a mod turned on that obviously changed the floor textures and now that the mod is turned off the game doesn't replace the floor texture with what should be there and instead freaks out and makes it pink, which sucks. Damn I'm so sick of this tutorial. Thanks for the help anyway man it's the save files that are corrupted, not your fault. I should just complete the game at least and not F**K with mods cuz sadly I've had this game since about a month after it came out maybe even less and I don't think I've gotten even halfway through it! lol
bben46
Just using the 'uninstall oblivion' command does not really uninstall oblivion. It actually only uninstalls oblivion.exe which is only part of the actual game. It leaves the rest of the files untouched. so your save games and data files are still there. The easiest way to do a complete reinstall is to rename the C:\program files\Bethesda softworks\Oblivion to something different - I rename the folder to OldOblivion. Then the saves are located in C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\My Games\OblivionAgain, I rename the Oblivion folder here OldOblivion. Then do the uninstall and reinstall and you will have a new game. then add in (if you have them) in this order Knights of the Nine mods that you want ( I have seen too many problems with the horse armor and leave that one off). Then install Shivering Isles. Then download and install the latest patch only. If you have Shivering Isles, use that one and NOT the Oblivion patch. If you do not have Shivering Isles only use the Oblivion patch for your version - Italian, English, Spanish etc. Patches are available here http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_plugins.htm You can copy most of the files from you old install back in if they are okay. I recommend renaming the new files to something else first so you can swap them back out if needed.
yourmomx8
Thanks, I don't have shivering Isles or anything cuz I'm a bit low on $$ right now BUT thanks anyway, I just decided to make a new save/new character cuz mine sucked anyway and I cheated alot :) + Kudos! ^.^
