Alternate Weapon Abilities

Ok, so I've seen some mods have weapons like the gun-sword from Final Fantasy XIII along with the Bumber Sword, or ballistic knives, but in order for their full functions to be displayed (like shooting the gun from the FF XIII sword), 2 separate weapons had to of been made. In the case of the gun-sword, one weapon is the sword and the second weapon is the gun - you can't have one weapon do both. Is it possible to simply make a hot key to go into an 'Alternate Firing Mode' for a weapon. This could be useful like for laser pointers and flashlight attachments where you could turn them on or off to help with your sneaking (which means that someone will have to figure out how to raise enemy threat/sensing levels when a laser pointer or flashlight is in their views). It would be awesome use the gun-sword (for instance) to it's full functionality and swipe someone a few times with it, then finish them off instantaneously with the gun by pushing the 'Alternate Fire' key. Though I am a Computer Scientist, coding or scripting for this game is entirely new to me so any advice, manuals (preferably manuals if possible as they show what tools/programs to use and how to use them to achieve whatever topic the manuals are for) or code snippets to get this done would be greatly appreciated.

 

I would like to say that I did a search for 'Alternate Fire' in the New Vegas Mod Requests Forum and nothing turned up relating towards this subject (except for remote explosive ammo but that's a different subject) so if there is a mod very similar to this that could be altered to fit the needs of this, sorry that I haven't picked it up yet, but feel free to post the link to it, thank you.
