Homeschooling

Until you show me this paper, I am forced to conclude that you simply don't understand the theory well enough.

Where's yours? Until I see that you, personally, have been published in a peer-reviewed biology journal, I am convinced you don't understand the theory enough.

See, you would have a point here if I was actually disagreeing with the unanimous opinion of the experts. My own understanding of evolution is irrelevant, what matters is the 99% of legitimate biologists who disagree with you.

I'm not disagreeing with you Dusk about the validity of evolution, I'm saying why are you even using it as an argument against homeschooling? You must know that parents are as accountable (perhaps even more so) as teachers are for teaching students. If you still fail to even see that, then you're even more ignorant than thought.

You know, I think I've explained this already:

The simple fact is, if you wish to act as a science teacher, you teach what the scientists say is the correct answer, in this case, evolution. If you are either unwilling or unable to do so, you are not qualified to act as a science teacher. In post after post, the homeschooling supporters in this thread demonstrate that they are not qualified to act as science teachers. So.... this way to the public school enrollment office ---->.

It's not unanimous, and why won't you listen to us? I'm serious: If the theory of evolution is as solid as you say it is, you should have no trouble destroying me, a little fourteen year-old who has been brainwashed into creationism.

And also: You still haven't answered my first post.

So once again you demonstrate your opinion of homeschooling hinges entirely upon evolution. Perhaps you may not be as well educated on the subject as I, hence not realizing that the scientific community is far from unanimously accepting evolution as fact.

Here is a nice new debate thread so you can end this pointless hijack: http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=50400&hl=

As far as homeschooling is concerned, evolution is the only appropriate thing to teach. If you can not, or are not willing to teach it, you are not qualified to homeschool your children. Your claim that there is actual debate among legitimate biologists (I do not count creationists with mail-order "diplomas" from unaccredited "universitites") is absolutely false. Evolution is not only unanimously accepted by biologists, it is literally essential to virtually all of modern biology.

Please at least try to understand basic logic. The homeschooling side makes a statement of the form (the ^ symbol means "AND"): A ^ B ^ C ^ D ^ E ^ F ^ G ^ H ^ I ... (to some arbitrary length), where each letter is the claim "the average parent is qualified to teach this subject". For this statement to be true, every element of that statement must be true (if you disagree, find a logic textbook and look up AND and truth tables, then write the truth table). To prove it false, all I need is ONE element that is false. I just happened to pick evolution, for various reasons, one of which being the fact that I can count on half the people here to provide me with excellent proof that the average person is either unwilling or unable to teach evolution.

Dusk. You. Still. Haven't. Answered. My. First. Post. What's the problem?

And. Which. Post. Are. You. Refering. To?

Yes, I know you can type in plenty of annoying ways. How about repeating the post you want an answer to, so I don't have to waste my time digging through three different threads and trying to guess what you want answered. I think it's the least you can do, considering how many times I've had to repeat myself answering the same question over and over again.

Very well, I apologize. This post is the one I was referring to:

Quick question Dusk, and then I'm gone. Maybe.

If the average person is not qualified to teach the subject matter, and therefore not able to appropiately educate their children, why do homeschoolers do so much better in both standardized tests and college? Your argument of "Standardized tests suck." is a cop-out, because even if they do suck, we do much better on them than public-schoolers. Unless you are going to say either A: All homeschoolers are lucky, B: All homeschoolers cheat, or C: Standardized tests are biased towards homeschoolers, I don't see how the quality of standardized tests applies.

No, you have not answered the question. Dodging perhaps, but I have yet to see one answer (other than the evolution bit) to see from you.
