Jhaerlyn
... heh, class is about to start but couldn't help it ;) ... so creationists are FORCING their beliefs on there kids ... with out giving the alternative .... while public schools (if holding to their mandates from the states) are doing ...what? seductively engaging the young children's minds? offering a plethora of viable explanations to the "origin" of life? ... how about Popular Culture and the Money that empowers it? ... if there's anyone in around forcing stuff on people ... that's where I'd point ;) anyway, be mindful of how you phrase things ... last I checked, Communism isn't really taught in high schools as a viable alternative to Capitalism ... nor the great possibity that our Democracy has more roots in Native American nations of the North East, than in any connections to ancient Rome and Greece-- despite the architecture ... ( you get to learn this cool stuff in univeristy american history classes .... unfortunately 1 in 10 americans takes a college level american history course ;( ) there are a lot worse things that as a society we are "forcing" our children to believe than the idea that there is a God who loves them so much he created a really pretty place to live in, ... and that we screwed it up ... and have continued to do so since :D

I have no Greek/Roman ancestry, but I have a great great great grandpa from a northern native American tribe. We believe he's northern because my great grandpa's name is Maurice, and didn't the French settle largely in the North? They say that racial equality and so forth exists to its full extent these days but, according to what they say and don't say in the textbooks, that's not entirely true. They make it seem like the Europeans' takeover of North America was simply a phase in history when in fact, thousands of people, mainly the natives, suffered from it. But to talk about suffering and the graphic violence is, shall we say, not school appropriate subject matter?
ResidentWeevil2077
oh.. HOmeschooling .... I think its excellent for children who have parents who are willing to dedicate the time, and have the knowledge and resources to do it. I think the Public School system is suffering from the same malaise that the country is ...and is part of the overall "machine" to produce Consumer/Workers without any real capacity to change their government, society or world. And yes, I am a teacher ... this is one of the reasons why I am ... I'm hoping to change things .... but then, i'm a product of public school ...and have a hard time know how to go about making those changes lasting ;)I couldn't have said this any better myself - however, I don't think anybody's opinion really matters to Duskrider unless they're a biologist (come to think of it, Dusk also said he designs jet planes, which kinda makes me wonder what exactly he's qualified in... ) Anyway, this debate is tiresome; I'm done trying to convince Dusk otherwise that his arguments just aren't as true as he claims. kungfubellydancer
Its okay, he's gone now. You may say whatever you want 1) because since Dusky's gone you won't be abused for speaking out against his "almightiness" and 2) it follows the rules  However since dusky made the original homeschooling thread, I say we have no one to argue with any longer. But to talk about suffering and the graphic violence is, shall we say, not school appropriate subject matter?I'm finally glad to hear someone who is a non-Native can see that Native Americans (and our First Nations here in Canada) are not treated as equally as everyone else. Even we're denied our cultural rights, and I feel ever so strongly about this. I'm a member of the Blackfoot Confederacy (this includes the First Nations of Siksika, Peigan, and Blood tribes in southern Alberta, the Blackfeet Nation in northern Montana), but yet I know nothing about our peoples' history, language, and everything else of the sort. Not that this has anything to do the topic, but I wanted to point out in regards to a vote at the UN about whether or not native people (as in a German is native to Germany, a Brazilian is native to Brazil, etc) have the right to use their land and the resources of that land in the way that they see fit, Canada was about the only UN member to vote against this, citing that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms would be violated by the acceptance of this vote. Since we are referring to natives, Native Americans and First Nations have their rights violated by an indifference to us. It is very wrong. Jhaerlyn
since this has taken on an interesting turn ...lets make a topic out of it :D
Malchik
If you want to start a new topic please do so but this is about home schooling. Also since it has turned into a quasi-religious debate I am going to close it.
