A question about textures

Relaxing, then again deforming the UV to fit some shape a texture is laid out in is still just deforming the UV

Relaxing the UVs would mean it got the same resolution all over, removing streches. Then scaling it down and modify it slightly to make it fit. It would be ten times better than having a big stretch here and there. It works quite well, if you don't go overboard with the deforming part.

Besides, you could use a 1024x1024 texture and sclale it down an inch. The different in quality would be small.
