Whisky312
After i upgraded my orcish sword and my orcish dagger i noticed they had exactly the same damage but the dagger was lighter thus swung faster. Is there any point in using the sword, does it have any benifits over the dagger?
FailWins
Swords have more range and are good for general combat.Daggers are faster but have little range. With the assassin's blade perk dagger sneak attacks can 1hit most things. Swords if you are more for full-on aware combat.Daggers if you're the sneaky type and don't want your enemies to be aware of your attacks.

Is there any point in using the sword, does it have any benifits over the dagger?Something was different when you upgraded your Orcish dagger. Upgraded damage is a function of base damage, so if your smithing skill was calculated out the same for both improvements the Orcish sword should always be better. Try upgrading your sword again, ensuring you have on the same smithing items and you used the same smithing potion as you used with your dagger. As your smithing, enchanting, and alchemy skill goes up, you can improve weapons/armor over again to an ever higher amount using a combination of alchemy to brew enchanting/smithing potions and enchanting to fortify smithing armor to use while you are improving items.
