UdragoN14
With the release of the Remastered version of Skyrim "Skyrim: Special Edition" I was wondering and worrying at the same time if the modding community for the original version of skyrim come to a halt or stop. Of course the modding community for the Special Edition is currently booming with mods however I believe this question maybe lingering in the minds of those that have decided to stay with the original skyrim and continue modding with new mods that come to the nexus, this question that I have doesn't mean its certain that the modding community for the original skyrim will stop it's more like a possibility another question is now that the special edition is out does this mean that mod makers for the original skyrim might transfer to the special edition modding community? phantompally76
People are not going to abandon the original game right away. After all, 40% of the community can't even get good performance out of the SE yet (low framerates, more CTDs than the original game ever suffered from, copious stuttering, etc.), and the lack of their favorite mods for the SE, per no SKSE (which they say will eventually change, but I'm not holding my breath). But the SE fanbois have made it perfectly clear that they consider people sticking with the original game to be inferior members of the community. That's going to get tiresome real fast. As far as mod authors, well, I too fear they will abandon the original game. After all, many of them (especially the most "popular" ones) feel entitled to compensation, and should mods for the SE become monetized (as I strongly suspect they will, for it is the only logical explanation for why Bethesda would have rereleased a separate version of the game in the first place), I fear they will put far more time and effort into mod releases, development, and updates for the platform in which they can make money on, treating the original game as either a beta testing environment (where original game users identify bugs and help iron out issues with the mod so that authors can sell a polished product on the SE), or relegated to stripped-down "free-to-play" versions on the original game ("If you want the additional features this mod offers, it is available for the Special Edition at the incredibly low price of $9.99), or they'll just stop modding for the original game altogether ("my time is precious, and I can't be bothered tweaking all my mods for two different versions of the game"; this one actually applies whether my theory on paid SE mods is bunko or not, and frankly, it's not entirely unjustified. Modding is tedious enough as it is.....who wants to literally double that tedium?). That said, not all mod authors are like that. But let's not kid ourselves...a disproportionate number of the popular ones are. They almost destroyed this community last year, and Bethesda has given them a golden opportunity to take another crack at it. So yeah, the community is very much divided over the SE, and frankly, we haven't even begun to see the fallout (no pun intended). In the long run, I do believe that authors will stop modding for the original game, which is going to cause a fairly significant chunk of the community that find no redeeming qualities in the SE to withdraw from the hobby. woodsman30
Not sure however the same was said with fallout 4 besides even if they left the scene there is close to 50,000 mods here that should keep you busy
phantompally76
Well, compatibility between those 50,000 mods will become more and more an issue as some are updated for LE and some are not. SSE is the flavor of the month, and has all but buried discussion about the LE on the Skyrim Modding subreddit. That's understandable, but I get the tangible sense that there's an agenda to keep it that way. Come what may, it's been a fun ride. If it continues, then so be it. If it fails, then there are other activities out there to save us from ennui. There's always No Man's Sky....there's a game that could use some amateur modding love.
