Disable Auto Detect Video Hardware?

Hi folks !

After switching to beths official 4gb update, I need to start the game via the launcher. I'm using my own custom ini settings, which worked fine with the 4gb launcher. But now, every time I start TESV.exe, that freakin launcher autodetects hardware and f**ks up the ini file and I have to copy-paste the file again !! :wallbash: Is there a way to disable this evilness ?

Thanks.

This is infuriating. First Skyrim loses half my stored crap, and now it autodetects and screws up my finely tuned setting every friggin time I launch it.

This game was fun the first few days, and I was really excited for Skyrim (after having to skip Oblivion) but now I'm seeing what a joke of a company Bethesda really is.

I had the same problem. Until recently Skyrim would only ask to auto detect my hardware if I made an actual change to my PC, but as of a few days ago it wants to auto detect (and replace my carefully selected settings) with 'ultra hig'.

What I did was to make the modified SkyrimPrefs.ini file read only (ie right click and then select properties). Skyrim is still auto detecting my hardware and says it is being set tp ultra high but is unable to modified the ini file  . |'ve tried it and the file is unmodified - not tried to see if this has any adverse effects on the game
