Can enemies spawn inside a cave while you're inside it?

For what it's worth, some tentative testing I've done shows that the oddities I've perceived can be smoothed out by Dynamic Leveled Lists. I actually used DLL before but not these past weeks, which would explain why the spawning behaviour looked different.
