My Personal Rant about The Nexus

  1. 1. Shall I continue this?

Let me put it in a way that hopefully you can understand, using an actual example which is typical for your sort of rant.

Yesterday I dealt with no less than 15 reports for ONE mod. The mod in question had several users complaining about how it wasn't "lore friendly", to the point of calling it "anime-crap", "more anime mods to ruin the game", and similar. What sort of constructive help would these comments be exactly? Is the mod author going to stop doing something they enjoy doing, throw away hours of work, and start working on something that they aren't interested in and probably won't do themselves? f*** No! This is why these comments are trolling, they don't help the mod, they only insult the work that the author hosted here FOR FREE. The mod exists because the AUTHOR wanted to make it the way they did.

You don't make mods, this is why you don't understand. Modders aren't uploading things for you, they are MAKING them for THEMSELVES, then uploading. People don't generally spend the long, thankless hours working on something they aren't interested in. People generally don't care who does and does not download their mod as long as the ones who do enjoy what they get. So do everyone a favor and get over yourself. Nobody is that important. Our policy exists for the sake of mod AUTHORS who shouldn't have to deal with this sort of puerile sense of entitlement that many people come here and dispense thoughtlessly.

We've tried being less heavy handed with policies in the past, what resulted was several prominent authors quitting because of this sort of crap. We've tried looking the other way because some authors didn't mind the insults and entirely negative feedback, and those mod threads quickly turned into flame fests, e-drama, and eventually bleeding over to other parts of the forum. The rules, as they are, exist for a reason and at the moment they're the best rules that can be managed when you have thousands of new users coming to the site daily, many of them only familiar with the Youtube style of feedback.

Going back to those 15 reports for one mod... Only 5 people were banned, of them only those comments which were decidedly there just to insult the work were banned. The rest were silently removed because although the tone wasn't necessarily positive, they tried not to be insulting about it. Those comments were removed for the reasons mentioned above; the comment was entirely unnecessary and could easily be something which might encourage other disgruntled users from thinking that they can say what they want.

The feedback section for mods is not there for random users to dispense their opinion thoughtlessly. It is there to contact the mod author regarding bugs with the mod, conflicts, offer words of support, or suggest ways which the mod could be improved. Suggesting that the author do something completely different does not count for any of these. Telling the author to make drastic changes to their mod or else "you won't download" is not the way to do things either.

Hopefully that clears things up. If not, you're welcome to find some other site because, quite frankly, we are better off without people like you.
