Dradum_Fairoak
In one of my inspired moments of boredom, I used the console to take myself to Vivec's room, then using God Mode I killed him. It was only after he died that I noticed the four pieces of paper on a stand. Having read through them briefly, it seemed to me that in fact Dagoth Ur is your ally, the only one who remained loyal to Nerevar. Is this right? Malchik
One story goes that he was warped by the power of the tools he was meant to look after. Keep reading, had you not disposed of Vivec he would have told you that there was more than one version of the story.

cmac
There are two stories. One is from the Ashlander who was a shield-mate to Nerevar. His story says that the Tribunal murdered Nerevar for access to the Heart and its powers. The other story, the one spread by the modern Tribunal, tells that nerevar died from wounds attained in battle.
Stormscape
I believe the Ashlander story. Because those guys are cool and say lieing is "dishonourable". ;)
cmac
Me, too. It seems mor realistic that Nerevar was murdured out of conspiracy and jealousy than from wounds. if he was well enough to go out and consult the Tribunal before dying, I find it hard to believe he died right after that. But, the other side has just as much claim- The Tribunal don't abuse their power (except Almalexia) so there is no real reason to kill him and then lie to the world. Stormscape
Almalexia was a nut. plain and simply.
cmac
true, but there is a factor that might drive anyone mad- having a great power for a time, and then the knowledge that it was being taken away. If there was strife being caused by the loss of her power, Almalexia would logically want to gather followers to supplement her. And, if there were three previous gods that people worshipped, then there is competition. She wanted to elimenate that competition. And she knew that she lost her power because you, the Nerevarine, destoryed the Heart of Lorkhan. There's always a method to madness.
