I have tried both riften and solitude and both times when I talk to the steward after the jarl says to buy a house(and yes the journal does update with"buy a house") the steward doesnt have any dialogue for buying a house or upgrades. please someone help! Citadel535 Posted December 24, 2011 Share Posted December 24, 2011 Almost all houses being offered by the steward are dependent on the Jarl's reputation with your character. You could probably cheat and select the Jarl and type in the console setrelationshiprank player 3 or 4 to get the option. If you don't want to cheat, just keep doing quests. Keep in mind certain houses have restrictions on them such as Windhelm (requires a quest chain completion) and Markarth (requires a quest/level 20 to get that quest).
