mclericp
I played skyrim 2x, one as a 100% pure mage and another as a 90% mage 10% bowI m now really bored with mages although they are really powerful. i dont really like thieves because i cant aim with my bow and sneaking around is just not me, so i limited my options to the melee classes. So for my next character, which i will create when the Ckit is out, what type of melee combat should i use? should i use:-dual dagger?-dual shortsword?-dual longsword?-2handed axe/sword/hammer?-mace?-sword + shield??? and what type of armor should i go for? what are the pros and cons of each? Matth85
although they are really powerful. You never really got to 50+, did you? You know, at which point you really can't kill anything as a mage. To the point: You should try playing a Nord 2 handed warrior. A real Dovahkin! Quite fun. Nothing beats running into a group with full daedric, having 80% spell resistance and armor cap, and just brute forcing things down. Pro:- Quite fun.- You are a warrior -- you kill stuff without too much thinking.- Looks badass.- Finisher with a 2 handed sword, head decapitation, never get old. Cons:- You use a lot of stamina.- You will die horrible deaths if you brute force too much.- At the levels of 30-40 things get hairy. Mostly because the damn Marauders hit like trucks. - Mages will eat you alive for the most part, unless you decide to roll a Breton instead of a Nord. Alternate you could simly enchant a piece of gear if you feel like getting enchanting. 80% magic resistance is all you need at top levels to basically kill anything. KratosAurion777
100% mages Are horrible to play , you can't kill a thing at high level and at level 81 ... even conjuration is not that good ... Illusion and alteration don't work and Destruction don't do any dmg ... Well at lvl 81 all the Character are the same , you have smithing//armor perks for the 567 Def , Perks in bow and One handed and Block , Perks in the good stuff in alteration//restoration ( resist magicka and regen magicka ) . Perks in destruction for better enchant , Perks in alchemy//Enchanting for make Godlike stuff . And all the upgrade in Life because it's useless to have more than what the enchantment will give you in magicka and stamina .You can do some funny variant , Me i Like Two handed So i do use it ( But don't have a shield is suicide in master versus mages unless you play a breton because you will miss Resist magicka enchant )
mclericp
i m lv 40 now pure mage on master, and i only use destruction(fire + impact), alteration with 3x armor bonus, restoration and heaps loads of mana pots. what is the cap level btw?usually i use my follower as meatshield while i attack from the back, and if things get ugly i summon a daedra using sanguine rose. What level cant i kill anything with a mage? edit: How does Dual wielding swords sound? I see mercer using it in my thief guild quest and he seems really OP. The enemy has no chance to fight back since both swords stagger the enemy. And whats the difference between short and longsword? They look similar to me... spets21
i would go for a dual wielding mace/axe rather than a critical type sword and wearing light set of armors for the additional stamina regeneration but compared to a 2hander , dual wield consume less stamina tho pros: -can devastate enemies easily with maces-attack much faster (dual flury)-have descent enough power attacks-cool animation(finishing moves and decapitation-less stamina consumption when using power attacks-(mace)with a 75% ignore armor heavies are of no threat to you cons: -dificulty using hot keys when switching to weapons(specifically if you are using identical mace then its advisable to rename your L/R gears.-you cant block -(a matter of taste)for me,decapitation with dual wielding maces sux on the other hand sword animation looks cool tho as for dragons and mages well you can always equip the proper -%resistance when fighting
frakle
Khajiit brawler is the way to go. That way you claw peoples' faces in, and you get epic finish moves! Plus, you are a Khajiit, so that's a a pro right there. ProsKhajiitPretty good 1st person animations (your guy (or gal) actually gets out his claws and swipes)Sweet finishing movesIf used with gloves of Pugilist, you get +25 unarmed dmg, Unenchant gloves and level enchanting up high, and you can make really high unarmed damage gloves I'd sayYou don't have to unequip stuff for brawlsNo more worrying about weapon weight ConsNot as much damage without pugilist glovesSlow so shield using enemies are tough
Matth85
what is the cap level btw? 80 or 81. I forgot which. How does Dual wielding swords sound?Depends. If you are any decent, it's overpowered. Mostly because you can reach inhuman speed. the speed perk + the speed shout and you can kill anything in a few seconds. That said, you lack any defense. If a mage looks your way, and you can't reach him with either a shout or yourself, you might aswell load last save. I find dual wield to be a little clunky. Even more clunky than using a 2 handed weapon. That said, both is just as viable. It's a TES game, even unarmed and unarmored is good enough to get you through master. nitevision92
My $0.02, having played a brute-force Nord for 110 hours: General comments:-You'll be able to make mincemeat of anything with the exception of groups of mages in the open (THEY will make mincemeat of YOU). -Look into ways to close the distance without getting killed, or invest in Sneak when going up against them in dungeons. You will be deadly in cramped spaces and choke points. In the open against ranged attacks- not so good. -You'll find yourself scrambling to close the distance, only to be hit by some spell and having the sissy mage run another 10ft or so further away. Naturally, Heavy Armour (and its associated perks) is recommended. -Look into some Archery and Sneak (especially the x15 backstab perk!) to kill sentries before you enter an area, and also to give you a chance should you find yourself against a ranged enemy with no means to get into melee range. -All weapons are viable, it depends on how much damage you are willing to trade off for attack speed. I recommend daggers only for stealth kills and whatever RP rules you may play by. -If you have the money, enchanted apparel with health/stamina regen are quite worth the coin you pay. Weapons:Short sword/Shield: Slow and steady, timing your blocks and attacks is fun. DPS output isn't the greatest, but it gets the job done. The shield does a good job of giving protection against ranged attacks in the aforementioned open ground. Shield bash interrupts spellcasting and attacks, and can even disarm. Very useful for most, if not all, situations. Two-handed (longswords included): Awesome at first, especially once you get the Decapitation and Sweep perks. Outclassed by Dual-Wielding at higher levels due to higher attack speed and DPS. Increased reach afforded by two-handed weapons isn't that great, but still can be used to your advantage. Dual-Wield: Fast, and has a high DPS once you get your Smithing up. Holding down LMB+RMB with Elemental Fury is a death sentence to almost anything. And that's without the Dual Flurry perk. As mentioned by the posters before me, it can be overpowered, if you're the type who goes 100 Smithing and crafts and improves Daedric weapons with hundreds of damage each. Use with caution, as you'll be pretty close to breaking your game (especially if you have high health and armour). leyasu
I find if you are a pure warrior, get the lord stone buff and finish the mara quest line to be an agent of mara. You get +25 and +15 passive resistance to magic from those 2 respectively. If you are a Breton with another +25 magic resistance you are basically a mage killer. I barely take any damage charging into a bunch of elemental mages at level 81 before preceeding to slaughter all of them
