CTD in Whiterun, possible cause.

Hello everyone,

I am one of the few players who have encountered many crashes since the last skyrim update.

In my case, these crashes occur only in whiterun and Jorrvaskr.

I spent a day to test my saves and reproduce the bug on a clean game with and without the unofficial patch.

Depending on the hours it is possible to return to Whiterun (night) or Jorrvaskr (day) I assume that an NPC is the cause of the troubles. It's not member of the circle since or Eorlund since I have been able to teleport to them in certain cases.

I also had crashes while I was in town when a door of Jorrvaskr opens to let out a NPC. (No NPC present in front of the door during the animation.)

I hope that the result of my investigation will be useful to modders and / or people working on the unofficial patch.

Sounds most important. That actually might be the cause, maybe some bad script (even though you said you cleaned them so...)

I finally managed to have a stable game with some mods. (I'll put a list in the end of my post.)

I've had to delete all the game data, cut the synch of the saves with the steam cloud etc..

For what I have noticed:

- SMIM and Stunning statues used together can cause some issues; both of them change the mesh of the Skyforge, causing a corruption of the saves and the game files. (That's one of the reasons why i've had so many problem there.)

- The last UNP resolve a lot of issues.

- Using the beta ENB and the game in windowed mode improve stability.

- The load order is very important with this version of skyrim and using LOOT is anavoidable.

I disabled all of my mods, and then it worked. So I just started adding the ones I considered essential, and removing the non-essential ones, and it's still working. Most of the ones removed are texture mods, but I was never able to sort out which specific mod was causing it. If I find out, I'll let you know.

I did the same thing, but with so many active mods it's not easy to find which mod is causing the crash. I suspect that it might be a combination of mods that is causing the crash but it's too much work to find out exactly which mods that are bad.
