ugraded my ram from 2GB to 3GB,

absolutely no concievable effect on the game...

What'd I tell ya.. Video card was the correct answer. RAM doesn't help games run faster, it helps keep them from slowing down due to HDD load times.

Two things would have helped you get this Bethesda game running better.

Video Cards will let you get a better top FPS when the scripts aren't kicking your butt.

Processors will let you get a better low-end FPS, and avoid bottlenecks in processing.

Something else that can be done, and this is very advanced so you might think twice about it, is to edit the mods you're using and changing their Quest settings.

I did this yesterday and I'm flying around at 15FPS average in the most dire of places, highly scripted game with Project Reality, Imaginator, plenty of quest and location mods, and my own personal Clean-Deluxe NV (which I'll release as soon as I can get it to the point where it's truly unique from Hairylegs222's POTG. Right now it's inspired by it but other than technique it's very much the same kind of thing).

I changed any script that runs at game startup and doesn't shut off. They have a Quest Delay, which in that situation will say how frequently it will run. Anything set to run at 0.01 delay I changed to 0.25 delay, and anything running higher I shifted up to a delay of 1. Delays of 0 got left alone, and anything over 1 second I left as well.

The result was that menus and hotkeys became somewhat less responsive, but not dead, and my frame rate would never dip due to script issues.

If you can do this and realize what's an important quest and what just isn't... well I obviously recommend it. Some scripts running at 100hz will just kill your performance.

in other words, my original plan of simply saving up for a better computer is the best one... :]

oh woe...

ah well...

what still bothers me is how come they set those definitions for "minimum requirements"

those clearly arent minimum requirements, cus the game is unplayable... or they have a f-ed up definition of "playable"...
