XWings
Just joined the Arcane University (after turning in the Vamp dusts and hearts, thanks to the Thieves Guild almost requiring you to kill a mage-guild member  ) at level 15, although most of my spellcasting skills are fairly low. When I tried the spellmaking altar to create a damage-magicka spell (for the mages guild quest with the pillar), I found out that there was only a very little number of effects available. Does the list automaticly upgrades once you reach higher spellcasting skill levels, or would you need to "discover" the effects first (by buying such a spell, or smilar)? :thanks: in advance! Abramul
You can only use effects that you already know. I seem to recall that Powers may count towards known effects.
madman132
You can only use effects that you already know. I seem to recall that Powers may count towards known effects. They do. As a Nord, you can make a shield spell right from the Beginning, as you have a shield-lesser power (woad). But you cant make spells with effects that you dont "know" yet. Scrolls and using them doesnt count. Enchanted effects on Weapons you fount wont count either, even Magic effects from Sigil stones you enchanted your gear with doesnt get you "knowledge" of this effect. Staffs wont work either. If you dont have the magical effect, you cant make spells with it.You have to buy a Waterwalking spell to make a waterwalking spell.Same goes for enchantments. You cant enchant something with a feather effect when you dont know any feather spells. If you know a magic effect, you can make what you want with it. even the most besic charm spell will give you knowlegde of the charm effect, which will make a "supercharm" possible. Of course, you cant make Spells that you couldnt cast with your skill level. So, no supermagic as novice. There are, however, some exceptions. Any Illusion novice can cast a 100 Point charm on touch with 1 second duration. Cast and "activate" the NPC as soon he has the greenish glow and you are the dream of his sleepless nights. Makes Speechcraft pretty much useless =)
GenghisKhanIT
When I tried the spellmaking altar to create a damage-magicka spell (for the mages guild quest with the pillar) Well, in the room just before the one with the pillar there is an NPC (don't remember his name), and a chest. Search inside, you can find scrolls of all the spells needed for the pillar quest.
